LT-14me 04-08-2004, 02:20 PM Hey, all it has been a while, since i posted this but i was just woundering, both of the sail pannel tweeters on my monsoon system stoped working. They are located in the sail pannel. They stopped working around dec..and it has just been to cold to work on it. What happened was the passenger side tweeter was popping and cracking under high bass. then eventually it stopped working, which lead me to believe either i blew it or it shorted out. I probably blew it. Then the drivers side one stopped working as well. So now neither of them are working. I checked my amp and all connections seemed to be good. All were firm and there was no water or anything on the amp. So my question is, if it was blown would it cause the other tweeter to stop working as well?
lastZ 04-08-2004, 07:19 PM tweeters in the sail panel? thats a new one on me.....i thought their was mid bass speakers in there?
LT-14me 04-08-2004, 11:32 PM in the sail pannel on the monsoon system there are 2 6.5 or 6.4 size tweeters that provide the low bass. So no one knows if one might cause the other to go as well?
nothingeined 04-09-2004, 01:54 PM One will not cause the other to go out. It might have just gone out. My driver's side was busted the other is working fine. The speakers are not too good anyway. Replace it with that 6 1/2 RF subwoofer.
lastZ 04-09-2004, 04:41 PM i never knew tweeters produced bass?

Ok thanks, and yeah they do produce bass, thats where all the lows come from. Is there a reason why they both arent working if the amp is good?
nothingeined 04-10-2004, 12:57 AM The speakers are just blown. The speakers in your sail panels, just to clear things up, are just truely subwoofers. Unless somebody switched them. The speakers themselves, do they have a screen going over it with the blue tweeter showing, or does it not have a screen over the whole speaker? If it does not have the screen then it just the subwoofer hence no highs. You said you do get bass though?

Yes they are subs, 6.5" subs...i do get mild bass, but its from the door pannel speakers. The tweetes in the sail pannel are no longer working.
So they are just blown??? Seems odd that they would both go at the same time? At first i thought it was a pannel connection? Because for a short while they would cut in and out depending...but now they totally stopped working. They havent worked in about 3 months.
nothingeined 04-10-2004, 11:08 PM Yeah the stock speakers are weird like that. If anything try to find those Rockford Fosgates or just go to GMparts direct with your part number and order them if you want to keep stock. They are like 34 a piece last time I checked.

So i can use aftermarket subs in that location? Wouldnt that mess with the amp or head unit? Plus would it fit correctly? Do you happen to have a link for the RF's that would fit? And or a part# for stock woofers? I heard that you can just remove the plastic part that covers the tweeters to get at the sub, but wouldnt i have to remove the whole sail pannel to make sure all that stuff is hooked up correctly?
nothingeined 04-11-2004, 12:55 AM Factory Subwoofers: 9365799
The Rockfords: Rockford Fosgate RFP4406 6.5" Subs
The Rockfords just go in place of existing ones. They hit hard from what I heard. They are still running at 4 ohms, but they actually sound better cause of the better build qualitly. The stock ones are just paper. Won't be disappointed. If you have the money and can find em, I say go aftermarket, if not just get the speakers from gmpartsdirect. They are 29 now.

Do i have to remove the sail pannel to get at the woofers? thanks:bow:
nothingeined 04-11-2004, 11:30 PM No. You just pry off the speaker cover, unscrew the four screws and it comes right out. It is kind of hard to put in cause the screws go into clips that are just there. Whenever I put the speaker back in, the magnet takes the clips:mad: Takes some time but it works out lol.

Thanks for all your help:bow: So i should be able to find those RF's at like a best buy or sumthin right? There is a car audio place down the street from me but they are pirates..and i dont trust them...they all deal drugs outta that place.
nothingeined 04-13-2004, 09:44 AM Best Buy does not have em yet. I work there:) We are supposed to get em, but not for like another 2 weeks or so supposedly. If you need them asap, just get em online. I think, think, Circuit City has em.

 thanks buddy i appreciate all your help, i will prob just go to best buy in a few weeks and ge them, they shouldnt be more then 50 dollars a pair right? I mean i can get a pair of 10's for less then 50 bucks..so i am just currious...Also do u know since they are takeing more power from the amp, will it be strong enough to support them? Last question i promise:D
nothingeined 04-13-2004, 11:59 PM I don't think they are going to be more then 50 bucks. If not make friends with someone in that area and get them dirt cheap;) The amp should be able to power them. My friend got them and just at normal listening it hit harder then the stock ones, so I say it has enough power. Feel free to ask more. Good thing is if they get them at Best Buy, you can try em, if you don't like em, you can take em back for a full refund. Pretty sure you will like em though;)
LT-14me 04-15-2004, 12:48 AM This is the only 6" sub i could find on the internet for rockford fosgate's http://store.thestereohouse.com/yhst-3153193619276/rfp4406-.html
http://car-audio-discount.com/products/rockford_fosgate/bandpass/RFP4406.html
 One about 75 bucks the other is about 55. However that is per sub:eek: Not a pair....i mean, thats pretty expensive for a 6" sub since most 10s retail for that.. I might just be getting the stock ones i guess, unless there is a cheaper way or if these things HIT LIKE crazy, casue i am just gunna get a stealth box and toss that in the trunk and be done with it.
nothingeined 04-15-2004, 08:57 AM Yeah they are pretty pricey. I talked to my friend yesterday and he told me they around 70 bucks each that he ordered them from online. I thought they would be cheaper but I guess not. Sorry. If you are going to end up getting a stealthbox and all that good stuff, then yeah just order the stock ones from gmpartsdirect for 29 bucks each. Then just get the OEM-1 adapter and run some subs back there. That is not a bad idea actually lol.

Hey man its ok ur only tryin to help. Do you happen to know how hard they hit? I mean is it worth the money? Or would i just be better off getting the 10" stealth box, or possibly the milhouse box with 2 10's...but that is down the road a little..right now i just want my lows back..lol..i was listening to dr.dre and it just sounded so bad:cry:
nothingeined 04-15-2004, 11:33 AM They hit, but nothing compared to having 1 or even 2 10 tens in the back. I had a 10 inch sub in my 2000, and how the hatch is it made the music sound so much better. If anything getting the two factory ones to replace the ones now, then getting that adapter, and a sub setup will probably run you less then getting those two 6 1/2's after shipping and all lol. Plus it will sound a whole lot better. Plus when you decide to upgrade from the Monsoon system, you can still use a lot of what you bought. :thumb:
LT-14me 04-15-2004, 12:41 PM LOl i went to gm parts direct and asked them if that was the correct # for the sub and they sent me this p#10447249 I ran it and it didnt say anything...the person said that those were the round speakers for the sail pannel:confused: then i ran ur p#9365799 and it appears to be what i need...i guess i cant take GM parts directs word on customer service hunh?..lol
nothingeined 04-15-2004, 01:05 PM Yeah. I had that same problem. Then someone from the board gave me that and it was it:thumb:
