V8 Propain Question

Hey guys.. as some of you might know, my next car will be a 94-96 impala replica caprice.. with a 502.. blah blah blah
anyways, i found some cheap ex-cabs (don't want a ex-cop, more money, and i don't need the motor) but they're propain, how are propain cars in gas? do they still make a BIT of power? and would it be really hard to go back to gas once i do all my conversions?

I have a 300000+ km 305 Caprice that I use for my commute 160 km per day... great car. Most Propane conversions can be made to work with gas and propane too I think. There are special licences for doing work on propane vehicles...they need an approval sticker from the installer etc. Dunno how a BBC will act on propane, but should be OK. All propane powered vehicles make about 80% of the power of a similar gas engine. The VE (Volumetric Efficiency) is poor because the fuel enters the CC is already a gas, unlike liquid fuel (gasoline) that can be made to expand into a gas while its going into the cylinder. The gasoline powered engine simply has more power because more mixture of air and fuel is compressed vs the same engine on propane or natural gas.

The reason punisha is asking is because there is a caprice he is looking at that runs on propane. When he decides to put a 502 in there it will run on gas.

Nope. I put all those kms on my Caprice Classic, and no, it's not an ex-taxi nor is it on propane. The Alpine system helps too...:p

ohhhh i thought your post made it sound like you had a old taxi that was propane powered and had a lot of clicks on it, must have been a misunderstanding...
