A neighbor of mine said he was going to use a clay bar on his car. I thoght cool, clay is good stuff. But then he went on to tell me he was told to use spray wax as the lubricant so the car gets waxed at the same time. Anyone done this? I figure it can't be all that good.

I've never heard of using wax as a lubricant?
When I clay cars, I use a mix of water/Zaino car wash as a lubricant. Then I follow up with a couple coats of Zaino.
I don't think he's getting a decent coat of wax on his car using the method he's using.

I have never heard of spray wax as a lube, I know some manufacturers use quick detailer spray as a lube, but never heard of using spray wax

If you take shortcuts like a spray wax, then don't expect the best results.
The best wax results still must be achieved with a moderate amount of effort, a consistent cleaning/waxing routine, and most important, with an excellent and proven wax (or synthetic) product.

Maybe he just didn't know that the spray that comes with most clay bars isn't a wax and is just a lube? Could he have just mis-spoken?
