What brands are best for power gains and loudness?

It would be going on an 85' iroc with a 350.

I have a flowmaster and its real loud, when u get on it, its even louder. I plan on putting an electric cutout to make it as loud as I want and to add horses at the track and divert the nitrous from eating my cat.

Runnin the American Thunder w/ their 80's series F body muffler, once it breaks in a little its great. I knew it was better and louder when installed, but after the winter and being used to silence from my winter car (Taurus), when I started it and drove it again, I forgot how loud that car really is. Also, last summer, just so I had an idea of outside noise, I had a friend drive by uptown and hammer it and make it downshift, well it echoed off the buildings and just filled the town with Chevy Burble.

I believe Flowmasters site has sound clips to hear, but not sure if any 3rd gens. Although the LT1's I think sound a little similar, but it'll give you the idea.

i love the sound of the chevelle clips from flowmaster, as for my exhaust its and unknown type dynomax. i've never heard the car stock so i cant compare it and not too many people where i live drive f-bods.

I'm a huge fan of the hooker aero chamber muffler found on the hooker supersompetition catback. not as loud as a flowmaster, but sounds much better. sounds perfect with manifolds. headers make it raspy, but replacing my 2.73's with 3.42's will take care of that. higher stalls on auto cars get rid of the rasp too. then it sounds awesome. 2 thumbs up to the hooker

long tubes on the hooker is pretty loud loud, but if you really want loud...... make a true dual setup with 2 dynoamx bullets. loud as hell and sounds good.... here's a pic of a car owner by a guy i know..... http://community.webshots.com/photo/49819185/49819397rsiJBL

I have a flowmaster catback and edelbrock headers, it's not very loud. Everyone seems to think it's kinda loud (people who aren't "car people")

I'm thinking about going with a Dynomax Ultra Flo....

Pretty loud, not sure if I want the attention from the cops.

My favorit is a 3" pipe spilt into two chrome tips. No muffler

Whats the price on the dynomax ultraflow's?
I need something not too expensive.

ed, if u need something cheap, you'll definately want the dynoax bullets at like 35 bucks a piece. rig two of them up, and u can still run them up over the pipes. to quiet things, the flowmaster spiral mufflers add a nice complement behind the bullets

Yea I got a flowmaster exhaust with 2 restrictive cats and the car sounds bad ass. Im gonna have a new exhaust put on with hi flow cats but Im probably gonna keep the flowmaster muffler.

If you are looking for the loudest exhaust, then the dynomax isn't what you want. I have it on my Formula 350, and with the windows up you can here more of the motor, than the exhaust. Even with the windows down it's just now starting to become loud enough to hear. I've had it three or four years now, and two of them were with out the converter on, and it still wasn't that loud then. It sounds nice though, but its more like what the factory fourth gen SS's sound like. If you want loud check out GMMG's chambered exhaust, just don't be drinking anything when you look at the price. $700 The Dynomax SS cat back cost me 250 with tax and all.

Has anyone tried using a dynamax race bullitt and then a y into 2 tips, sorta like a SLP loudmouth? I've been thinking about trying this for a while, but didn't know how it would sound. :D :D :D

klumb15
04-02-2004, 08:05 PM
that is the same idea i had...run 3 inch mandrel bend tubing, with a single 3 inch dynomax bullet muffler, no cats, then a y pipe at the end with dual 3 1/2 inch tips...I got a quesiton abotu exhaust tips too, does it make a difference the size of your exhaust tips? Becuase I was thinking abotu running something like the corvette has, like 4 3inch or 4 2.5 inch tips all grouped together in the middle of the back tucked in a cutout, or would I get a deeper throatier sound with dual 3 1/2 or possibly dual 4 1/2's.

SLP headers to a 3" 40 Series Delta Flow Flowmaster dumped before the axle. Doesn't sound like it would be loud would it?:) It is. A cutout also which I haven't played around with yet. I'm guessing with nitrous it would make more power by NOT going thru a 3" muffler. Time and testing will tell. Goodluck! I like the Hooker cat backs for many reasons. Price, sound, and quality are a few to name.

Dynomax should make a better cat back. Something with JUST a Race Magnum and options like a Bullet R/M, a round welded or a larger welded R/M, multiple bullets, etc......good 3" or 3.5" optional Mandrel bends, etc. WHY don't they do this?

I have hooker headers into the flowmaster force II single in/out system and its kinda raspy even with heads/cam. The hooker is a much smoother sound, but if I were to do it again you bet your ass I'd be running an SLP 2-on-the-left 4th gen system modified for a 3rd gen.

does elimnating the cats and having an off road pipe in place make it louder or just more raspy? also, why does everyone seem to have 80 series flos... i was always under the impression that the 40 series was the loudest of all flowmasters...

klumb15
04-04-2004, 12:39 AM
yea flowmaster 40 series are the loudest of the flowmaster...i have no idea why so many people run 80's, probably because they are quite when your driving normal, but bark pretty good when you tromp on the gas. NO CATS=LOUDER...i still want to know more about those bullet mufflers...anybody have some input?

i run true duals, through dual cats, through 2 chambered mufflers. If you want loud and mean chambered mufflers are the way to go. Dont completly understand how they work all i know is that all they really do is cancel out the high tones. I have no doubt in my mind that my car is not street legal and its borderline too loud but it sounds soo cool and is just soo awesome lol. I had twice last summer where i was just sitting idleing and threw out a big rev and someone quite literally jumped they were so scared. This is on a stock 350 tpi

i don't really care if mine is loud or not, but it would be nice to have it get really loud...I would rather have a really low, deep, throaty rumble, so it doesn't sound all cheap...I am probably going to run dauls, with side exit exhaust through a cutout in the fiberglass right before the rear tires..Has anybody done this? I would love to see some pictures on how it turned out. I am getting real frusterated on picking out an exhaust because I don't want to get some mufflers, than have it too quite, but i don't wanna get something that is really loud, like straight pipes, then get in trouble every day with the cops? Would the bullet mufflers really be that loud...I was also considering running dual turbo mufflers, but I'm afraid those would be too quite..i need some knowledgeable advice.

I have a 350 camaro. I am looking for an exhaust that wakes the dead almost. As loud as possible. The more interior noise the better. I dont want to spend a whole lot of money on a whole exhaust system tho... like headers, cats, and muffler... just probably mufflers and piping. I want it to come out to dual in the back. What do you guys think... what would be the loudest and most cost effective.

I'm running SLP 1 3/4 headers into Random Technology cats and then into a Mufflex 3 1/2" catback with a Spintech muffler with 3" dual outlets. Nice and deep at an idle gets loud at wot.

doug791
04-06-2004, 11:26 PM
you got the dual cat option? I have true duals through the stock dual cat setup just grab 2 chambered mufflers to replace the one muffler they run into, theyre round and straight, absolutly wake the dead too almost too loud. I have that and its true duals through 2.5" duals good exhaust for a modest 350

92BLKL98
04-07-2004, 12:07 AM
Yeah but I kind of wish I had converted to a single 3.5" cat much simpler and more ground clearance and one 3.5" cat flows better than the two 2.25" cats.

the flowmaster 1 chambers (i beleive they are called delta force 10 series) sound pretty good... they are a lot louder than the 40s its got a nice growl and if you play your cards right and get the 6 1/4" long one you can stuf it in that little raised section before the exhaust goes over the axle... like it was meant to go there...

i bought a 4th gen slp loudmouth took it to rainbow muffler up the street they put it on.. and with my 230/236 cam.. oh my .. its ungodly.. especially with no cat.. i had it running on open headers for awhile.. and theres a noticeable difference between open headers and loudmouth.. but not that much lol.. its defintley way too loud.. i got 2 kicker solo baric 12's and fosgate 6x9's and fosgate 4x6's and with the windows rolled up i still have to blast the stereo to drown out the exhaust lol.. if it wasnt for the exhaust nobody would even pay attention to my car the primer/black paint job its got goin on does catch many looks lol.
