Vacuum pump

Anyone ever run a vacuum pump for a crankcase evac system??? I am thinking of doing this... Are there any good electric ones out there??? What about belt driven??? It's just a nitroused small block chevy, but it's getting a pretty hefty dose... I would really like to stick with an electric one, but I'll do whatever works best... Any input would be greatly appreciated... :D

I am running an aerospace components one in my 13.5:1 motor in my nova. It is belt driven, I don't think there is an electric one that can pull enough vacuum to do anything. http://www.aerospacecomponents.com/vacp.htm#vp

look there for pricing and pics of the whole setup. I run about 12-13 inches of vacuum. If you use low tension oil rings you can run a bit more and gain a lot more by using the vacuum pump to seal the rings.

some issues to consider with this. you must oil the pump with 3 ounces of ouil every 6 passes or so, or you will wear it out. You must also rebuild it every year to 2 years or so, plus you shouldn't drive with it on the street. Which means if you drive on the street you will have to oil it once in a while. if you decide to take the belt off you won't have any crank case ventilation.

If you run your car on the street, a pan-vac system is a great way to go, and it requires little to no maintnence for a fraction of the price.
