FASTFATBOY 03-30-2004, 10:15 PM Anyone done any testing? I have looked on the web for flow data with no luck. Anyone know what a 4 inch Mufflex flows with the dual outlet, bullet or no muffler. I need to know what cfm figure to put in the Engine Sim software.
What does a Bullet, Round race Magnum, Borla XR1 4 inch Muffler flow? How do they flow them? How do you apply that info to a 7000 RPM shift, or X amount of horsepower potential?
I got no answer to my last question I posted in here, tell me if I am asking dumb sh!t:confused:
David
PS I have E mailed the companies for the info, I would like real world stuff. The company info sometimes is not totally true or accurate at times.

They post some flow numbers and theoretical hp it should support on some of their UltraFlow SS and welded mufflers. You'll have todig into the specs, but they are there. Not every muffler has flow numbers, which tells me the lower flow ones aren't listed.

Well I tried to open the specs, but its a "PDF" file and I cant open it for some reason. Only thing I saw on the site was a flow test on a 2.5 welded square magnum muffler at 1133 CFM, and a chart that showed exhaust pipe diameter VS horsepower output.
I dont think the dual outlet Spintech muffler on the Mufflex is gonna do what I want. But I want to put the highest flow non bullet on if possible.

SStrokerAce 03-31-2004, 01:25 AM Talked to your old man and the 3" straight in and out Ultraflow Dynomax mufflers flow 2200cfm per.
The 17225 is a 4" in and 4" out muffler that flows 2200+cfm, that's about as good as they get rating wise.

Never seen any really promising dyno numbers out of a Spintech Muffler, where I have seen good numbers with Dynomax/Magnaflow mufflers vs. open pipes.
I might call up Dynomax and ask them how much more the 4" round muffler flows vs. the 17220 because I know those things work on a 700hp big block just fine.

FASTFATBOY 03-31-2004, 06:27 AM Thanks Bret, yeh Pops was saying a 4 inch round welded race magnum flowed 2200 CFM, I never could find it on the Dynomax site. Your saying its a 3 inch, I have an E mail into them for this info, no reply as of yet.
Pops is thinking the 4 inch mufflex is marginal for the combination, I dont know. Its the ol " Well sew and sews car had one and it made "X" amount of horsepower" but would it have made more with a different setup? He's a hairspliter as you know LMAO. I personally think the 4 inch mufflex will be fine with a bullet style muffler. I already have the setup, just trying to decide on the muffler, I do not want true duals to drive around with.

Injuneer 03-31-2004, 02:44 PM Baxter pushed 1,125HP through a Mufflex 4" with the Flowmaster single out muffler, running low 9's at 150+MPH in a 3,900# car. He removed the Mufflex system completely, and did not see any significant change in rear wheel HP. He did benefit from the 45# weight reduction. The Mufflex 4" IM pipe is EXTREMELY heavy.

I have that one in 3.5" x 21" to a tailpipe, no cats. It's much louder than I'd hoped it would be:eek:.

David Man, you should listen to my post above. I have about the same setup, and with this 3.5" round Dynomax it's so loud you can't talk to somebody behind the car without yelling. The radio is at 1/2 throttle when you first hear it (cheapie cd player). It's gonna be a big attention magnet for the popo, and I'm thinking about adding a 3.5" baffle in the I pipe that I could remove if need be.
On the plus side, it does sound wicked:death:
