Whats makes the diff between Lt1 hubs

Is the crank snount longer on the later models?

I've got a late model crank in a 93 car and i need to order a keyed hub. I want to make sure the difference isn't made up in the accesories

The difference is in the length of the crank hub. I had originally tried to use a crank hub from an LT1 Caprice on my 93 camaro and it turned out to be about 1/2" too long and the crank pulley didn't line up. I believe all LT1 f-body's use the same length hub though.

I'm pretty sure the 96-97 hubs are longer than the rest on the F-bod. I think it had something to do with the crank position sensor on OBD2 cars.

Hey Larry :). I have found the opposite to be true in my limited experience.

The 96-97 hubs are shorter (from what I have seen) to allow room for the CPS reluctor wheel. I ditched my CPS when I went OBD1, and reused the stock hub. Comparing two together, the 93-95 piece is a PINCH shorter. I had no problems using my 96 piece w/o the reluctor wheel, but just because I did doesn't mean its a good idea :).

The Vette's got the 1/2" longer hub on LT1's and LT4's!
The differance in OBD1 vrs OBD2 lenght is the thickness of the reluctor wheel for the crank position sensor thats sandwitched between the hub and crank gear. This is about .100 of a inch.
If you use a hub ment for OBD2 it will not seat aginst the crank gear it will be short by .100

March pulleys offers a "spacer" if one was using a F-body hub/balancer for the a vette install. It comes with longer hub bolts and go's between the hub and pulley/balancer to get the deal lined up corectly.

Another option would be to contact ASP racing and get a Billet keyed hub for $100. :)

Or Fluidamper... they make an integraged LT1 hub/damper. :) (better check what years its designed for)

Ok ATI balancers come with the hub for obd2 applications and a crank "shim" if your installing it on a obd1 car. Just order for vette or firebird and follow the destructions;)

Ditto that, but I went ahead and replaced my hub with the 94-95 style hub. I have heard of a couple ppl that ate belts.
