Looking for....

Looking for compass/outside temperature digital display for the car, you know the auto dim mirrors with compass/temp. They are cool but Expensive at $200+.

Found out Gentex, the leading mirror manufacturer is in Zeeland, MI.
Anyone work their or have a lead for a better price mirror? Do they have an outlet at the factory! Jay

Gentex does not sell to the public... They sell to one distributer "MTI" thats the only way to get one unless you buy a car with the mirror on it from the factory or........ you know Me;). My dad is a sales rep there. I may be able to hook you up. Shoot me an email with some contact info.

I was thinkin the same but $200+ is way too much for those mirrors. Let me know how it turns out, I MAY be interested as well in the not-so-distant future.

I thought about one of those in the past, but I was wondering if the compass/temp part has it's own brain, or do you need other hardware to use one?

The ones on Ebay.. WILL NOT WORK... they are not wired for the camaros nor do they have lights under them.

you know what the trick is... you need to find someone that works at the plant! if one gets scratched, doesn't meet qc requirements or something they are usually junked. so if they are made in michigan we need someone to hook us up!!!

my old grand cherokee had one (auto dimming) and i loved it!! maybe junk yards off a cherokee! i've seen them with the compass but not sure what they come in..

I also MIGHT be able to hook you up.

As for everyone else, I might be able to get about 5 or 6 mirrors with wiring harnesses "Promos" Here is the list, in order of who has first dibs.

1) RazMiBlackZ28
2) CamaroBoy96Z28
3) 95 Z/28 LT1
4) Dave89IROC
5) limige

You're right, Jay. It's a Magna-Donnelly mirror.

I think you're making an uneducated statement about quality. I know the picture sucks, but it's beautiful, and works flawlessly.

But don't worry, I won't steal your business!

I would like one also, if you can do it.

Gentex has plants in the Holland area, not sure if they make the mirrors there or not.

Don't worry about it... You’re not stealing my business... I am giving them away "Free" They are the same mirrors that GMMG uses them on all their Hotrod, Bergers and ZL1 Camaros. I'm glad you mirror is beautiful in your car... you just won't catch me with one in my car.:D

How does the mirror obtain it's signal for temperature? I assume the compass portion is self contained?

Jay, if you can give away over $1000 in mirrors for free, by all means, do it! But if it falls through, or demand exceeds supply, or others simply realize Magna-Donnelly owns (oh I kid I kid), I just might be there!

How does the mirror obtain it's signal for temperature? I assume the compass portion is self contained?

A temp sensor is placed near the front of the vehice, ideally in front of the radiator. That way the engine heat doesn't affect the readout. Then you run a wire through the firewall up and up the A-pillar to the mirror. As for the compass, there are different zones which can be configured for different areas. Like you said, it is self contained.

Hah, but Jay, I don't understand why! I really like my mirror, I got it brand new, it's installed, why would I want to give it up?

Do you want me to compare the two brands? They both are auto-dim, and have compass/temp readouts. Same features, right?

Does your mirror have lights on the under side of the mirror like the stock Camaro/Firebird mirrors? If you change your mind let me know... Its a nicer mirror. You can keep the old one for a paper weight or somthing if you want. :D
