Impala any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The only reason this thing has a shot is because it's a Toyota and the Quality leg-humpers would have to have one...without taking into account Impala's strong quality rating.

it's a very clean desing. i could easily see this thing selling in great numbers.

And yes, the Element is far worse than the Aztek.

When you elongate a Prius as a possible design for the upcoming large sedan, that cant say much about what people think of toyota's design.
And when GM tells me they are gunna make a 400hp 6.0 engine, I belive them... but when Toyota tells me that they will make a 270hp engine... Ill belive it when I see it.

I think I'd take a punch to the junk before I'd take that. Give me an Impala please.

Definitely the Impala. That Toyota looks like a Dodge Intrepid, but in some sort of space-time warp. I like the Intrepid, but that Toyota makes me want to run and hide.

If this were a Chevy effort, what would your opinion be? Seriously now.

270 hp out of 3.5L V6? not bad.. Wonder how the powerband looks.. If it has a smart and fast 6 speed tranny for downshifts with an more aggressive 1st and 2nd gear, it will probably be pretty responsive, and get good gas milage to boot.


The front looks very odd, probably ugly.. But I kinda like it, with those large windows and big doors.. I looks and sounds like it will be incredibly roomy... visibility out of the back looks nonexistant though! but would have to see more of it for final judgement. Tell you the turth, I was never a big fan of the new Impala's styling either.


Wonder how much it'll cost though..

For some reason, I tend to hold Chevy up to a higher standard design-wise...because I want Chevy to build beautiful cars AGAIN!

With that said...if that Avalon were a Chevy...I'd say it's better than Malibu and no worse than Impala. But the part that I'd really be impressed with is 270 hp!

The new Avalon is the Prius(sp) on crack. It has a similar profile which is definately a bad thing. 270hp is good but not enough to overcompensate for that ugly-ass exterior.

The only reason Toyotas sell is because of their quality rep. No one is buying for Style or HP(until now with this 270HP engine). If Chevy can match or beat Toyota on quality, and they already are with the new Malibu, then there will be no stopping Chevys rise back to the top. When is the 300HP 5.3L V8 Impala SS hitting the streets?

No thanks. 270hp is cool, but I'd still take a 240hp Impala SS anyday over that thing.

One thing you might want to note is that this is not the "real" car but an artist's rendition based on descriptions of the new car's styling. I just noticed that.

Not in all cases. Buick LeSabre (Avalon's closest competitor) outsold Avalon by well over 2 times in 2003. Avalon's last redesign really upped the fugly quotient and buyers responded accordingly.
