i was bored today, so i decided to change my plugs again. thought i would report on the condition of the plugs as someone may be interested...:D

i did my first plug change at 60k miles, installed NGK TR55's. today the car has 73k miles, so the NGK's i pulled out had only 13k miles on them. didn't really expect them to be bad, but i've heard some say they change NGK's at 20k intervals, so i thought they might be showing significant wear.

the plugs looked really good when i pulled them out. the gaps of the plugs ranged from 0.062-0.064". not too bad, considering they were installed with a 0.060" gap. some slight discoloration, kind of greyish, but overall looked really good. the tip on the plug, don't know what it's called, the part with the v-groove on the NGK's, looked almost brand new.

so, i'm convinced that the NGK's can last for a good while. maybe i'll do my next change at 30k and see how they look.

if anyone wants pics, let me now, i'll try to borrow my roomies digicam.

BTW, it only took me 3 hours this time... but that's better than my first time (8 hrs).

Wow, I wished you lived near me, so I could pick up some pointers! I have to do my first plug change on my 1999 TA Firehawk, she has 100,000 km now on the original plugs. Is running fine, but I think I am living on borrowed time with the OEM plugs. I've got the "how to" guide from installuniversity.com, and will attempt the big plug change sometime soon.

Thanks very much, thats useful info to have. I'm off to Sears ASAP, with a list of items to buy (I love Craftsman tools).

yes, i pulled the engine... but, before this last change, i finally realized i didn't have to pull the engine to change the plugs, so that's why it only took 3 hrs.

where were you before my first plug change??? you could have saved me 5 hrs...
