Will Cougar and T-Bird be sister cars?

There have been rumors that Mercury will have a Cougar soon. Based on the Mustang's DC2 platform, it will get an IRS and possibly a double wishbone front suspension to replace the Mustang's struts. It is also rumored to get a more upsacale interior. No word yet if it will be the same size...or larger than Mustang.

The current 2 seater T-Bird will be discontinued soon... but a new T-Bird is supposedly already in the works. It may come as both coupe and convertible and be a 2+2. It will used a stretched DC2 architecture and have IRS.

I wonder if this new "stretched" DC2 version with IRS and possibly new front suspension will be used by both Cougar, T-Bird.......and ....an upcoming Lincoln coupe?

Old news. I think Phil Martens spelled it out not too long ago. He mentioned just about everything but the names of the vehicles. There will be 10 in all spread across Ford, Mercury and Lincoln.

Yeah, I know some of these bits and pieces have been circulating for awhile.

I'm just wondering if Cougar will be more T-Bird than Mustang though.

Or a better question is, will T-Bird be more Mustang like? It's kind of ironic to me that Cougar and Mustang started out as sister cars, then the Cougar became the sister car of the T-Bird. Cougar and T-Bird then both went off and pretty much did their own thing. Now they're both going to be based of the Mustang. I think it's a really good move though. The new chassis is a really solid piece of work.

But to answer your question, yes, Cougar will be more like the Mustang, just nicer :)

Being that the D2C is made to accept Ford V8s instead of DEW's ability to accept just Jag based Ford V8s, I'd say D2C will be replacing DEW at Ford across the board, while Jaguar keeps DEW.

Sounds very, very plausible to me.
