I need new tires, help out of the cheap ones firstCoolformula 03-18-2004, 11:18 AM Do you think think cheaper tires give a close performance too more expensive ones? robvas 03-18-2004, 11:50 AM KDWS is a snow/all season tire KDW or KD I voted for the MX's, piss on the 712's Coolformula 03-18-2004, 11:52 AM I know but dont you think the kdws might be better than the kuhom mx dont know they both cost 150 roughly. Still 50 bucks more a tire......keep it coming guys Coolformula 03-18-2004, 11:58 AM Yokohama AVS ES100 129.00 Pep Boys Futra 100.00 I forgot about these too... slashz28 03-18-2004, 12:41 PM i had 712's on my z last year, hated them. only good thing about them was that they were good in the rain. thats it. one tire which you didnt list (which i dont know if it is discontinued or not), is the yokohama a520. had those on my z 2 years ago, and they stuck like glue in turns:) loved them , and they were cheap as well. only downside to those, after 4-5 months they were toast. out of everything on your list, the only other ones id be familiar with would be the gforce ta's. i think those replaced the comp ta line (but are quite similar, i think). had comp ta's 3 years ago, better than the 712's guaranteed. as for the avs 100's, ive seen different post with differing results on those. when i was picking out tires last year, it was between those or the 712's. went with the 712's, only cause the avs 100's cost a bit more. dont know firsthand though:) hth Chevycobb 03-18-2004, 12:47 PM I had the 712's on my Z last year....they were ok, good for the price. could have lasted a little longer though. Now i'm using Falken ZIEK 512's...so far I love them, they seem to stick pretty well. Got all four for $450 at a local shop Coolformula 03-18-2004, 01:11 PM So do you think falkan are better than the 712. I got 2 pep boys right now, they seem ok there good tread. Chevycobb 03-18-2004, 01:22 PM yeah, i would say falken's over the 712's CeeBee94Z 03-18-2004, 02:20 PM I had the 712's on my Z and hated them....now its time for new tires (7-8k later) and I am gonna go with the firehawk sz50's Just my input Coolformula 03-18-2004, 02:48 PM Yea the sz50's look good. 360 treadwear, so they might just be as cost effective, since they SHOULD last longer. Where are you getting urs? grossesexy 03-18-2004, 03:05 PM i think they are called kelly charger's or something along those lines...i have them on my car. :D cheap ass tires, lots of road noise. if you arent worried about anything besides them being tires(no exceptional qualities in other words) they arent bad for about 80 bucks a tire. Coolformula 03-18-2004, 04:10 PM Well where do you get kelly charger's lol sounds gay lol. CeeBee94Z 03-18-2004, 05:29 PM Originally posted by Coolformula Yea the sz50's look good. 360 treadwear, so they might just be as cost effective, since they SHOULD last longer. Where are you getting urs? Tirerack....plus they have the highest dry traction rating for a tire in the price range and not being a drag radial Coolformula 03-19-2004, 12:20 PM firestone htrz yokohmma I think need to save some money now... stereomandan 03-19-2004, 12:41 PM Out of those choices, it's either the MX's, or the SZ50's. Both will be awesome tires. The KDWS's won't touch the MX's for dry performance. Myself, I bought the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's instead of any of those choices and couldn't be happier. It's a 275/40-17 size though. Dan Coolformula 03-19-2004, 12:59 PM I had some f1's I just thought for the "best" tire they make it wasnt worth the price. Mine wasnt great in the rain either. But I just had the f1's no the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's maybe there different. Tires just cost way too much, and they dont last long enough... stereomandan 03-19-2004, 01:09 PM Originally posted by Coolformula I had some f1's I just thought for the "best" tire they make it wasnt worth the price. The GS-D3's are WAY different than the F1's. You can't even really compare them. The GS-D3's are the highest rated tire on www.tirerack.com Incredible rain traction and very good dry performance. The only possible negative with the GS-D3's seems to be a slightly less stiff sidewall than a couple of the other MAX performance tires. This hurts the quickness of the turn in, but I haven't noticed it much. They are very quiet and are just wicked looking. You should at least look them up just to see what you think. Just go to http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyeartireselector/display_tire.jsp?prodline=Eagle+F1&mrktarea=Performance&size=P245%2F50ZR16&sidewall=VSB Dan Coolformula 03-19-2004, 02:49 PM http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare2.jsp?shipquote=N&sortcode=&fromCompare1=yes&partNumber=&make=&model=&price=&prevprice=&sidewall=&sidewallShown=&promoShortText=&promoUrl=&loadRating=&width=&ratio=&diameter=&sortCode=&speedRating=&qty=&stockMessage=&type=T&frontTire=&frontLeftTire=&rearTire=&rearLeftTire=&wantRHP=&RHPprice=&sortCode=&pre=&sumRating=&spec=&warranty=&comments=&tests=&surveys=&perf=&specCode=&promoLongText=&AddToUser=true&_74YR7F1SUPERCAR_qty=4&_74YR7F1GSD3_qty=4&_74WR7F1GS_qty=4&removeIndex=3%7C74ZR7EHPUPL&_74ZR7EHPUPL_qty=4&sortValue=1 It shows that the f1 supercar has more dry traction. There about 70 dollars higher than the firestone and they got a 75 gas card, but treadwear is only 280 the firestone is 360. and cheaper So decsions i must make lol Steve0 03-19-2004, 03:11 PM I got my Toyo FZ4's (http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/high_perf/fz4.html) locally on sale for $110 a piece. I'm sure you could find them similarly priced. I havent seen many people with this tire and I'm not sure why... they seem to be a pretty good tire so far. They grip pretty well, and wet traction is good. I havent had them long enough to comment on treadwear. So far, I have no complaints. Yea I used to have those on my Z, I loved them, but I can't find them anywhere anymore....all I found are the new ones, the T1S's Where did you get them? And do they make 255-45-17's? I would definitely buy them again if I could find them, if not I am going with the Firehawk SZ50's WestCoast96Z28 03-19-2004, 03:26 PM I'm not sure if the SZ50s are considered "cheap" by your standards, since it's 30 bucks more than your next costly tires. Out of that batch, I'd pick the SZ50s. Beware of those $100 tires...sounds cheap now, but also known for flat spots, uneven wear, and short life. $400 bucks now may sound cheaper, but if you replace them after 10K miles...why the hassle. I had 245/50R16 SZ50s a while back and they were great for their value. I changed tire size now and run 255/40R18 F1 GS-D3 and it's a big improvement. Partly because of the wheel size change probably, but the they do seem sticker in the straightaways. I agree with Dan, the GS-D3 are NOTHING like the reg F1s. Performance and the bitchin' looks...hard to beat it. I've been waiting for it to rain out here just to try out the wet traction. So, if you want "cheap"...go with the SZ50EPs (EPs last a little longer...so they say). If you want to spend the dough, get the GS-D3 or even the Bridgestone S-03 (heard good things from a buddy). WS Sick 03-19-2004, 03:48 PM Have a set of the Kumho ex supras and they are very nice. I had the sumitomos before and they wore out within a year. CeeBee94Z 03-19-2004, 04:44 PM I just found the Toyo T1-S's for 175.99 each...shipping 43 bucks, very tempting now :) http://www.etires.com/showSizes.jsp?manufacturer=toyo&category=PERF&group=T1S Coolformula 03-19-2004, 06:03 PM 280 AA A toyo firestone is 340 AA A Why would you pay more for a toyo and I think the firestone would be much better, or you could get the new f1 gs3 things for about 192.....?????? ArizonaZ 03-19-2004, 06:04 PM Just my thoughts, but I've always had beeter luck with Yokahama's. Running YK420's right now, and they have AAA traction, and I think a 420 treadwear rating. I get very good traction, better on the street (but who doesn't). Of course, I have 2.73's at the moment, so traction really isn't a problem. Yokahama's Z rated tires are actually priced a little less too. The YK420's were about 140 apiece, where as the Z rated's are about 130. Great tires. The firehawks are better then the Comp TA's I had on my car. Coolformula 03-19-2004, 07:01 PM Just my thoughts, but I've always had beeter luck with Yokahama's. Running YK420's right now, and they have AAA traction I didnt think AAA was a possiblity by how they rate them? Plus i cant fine that tire?? I would definitely buy them again if I could find them, if not I am going with the Firehawk SZ50's I got mine at a local speed shop here in Raleigh called "Tires and Parts." If you want I can get their number for you. According to teh website the closest size to the one you want that they make them in is 255/40ZR17. Coolformula 03-31-2004, 02:40 PM I got 285/40/17 times four the Kumho MX max performance tires. I hope they do well..... Coolformula 03-30-2005, 04:29 PM Well its been like 365 days since this post. And my Kumho MX, have been decent, but they don't have many more miles left, and its only been one year. And it cost me close to 700 dollars thats a lot for tires in one year. Thinking about seeing if these will make it till sept(can we say bald), any opinions on tires how about the new firestone. The KDWS looks good I have had one before and the treadwear is 400 and same rating of AA... 1quikZ 03-30-2005, 04:57 PM I am using eagle GPS right now but am going to have to change them come summer, i was thinking those F1's how long do they typically last? (miles) Chevycobb 03-30-2005, 05:18 PM Talk about bringing a post back from the dead! Well, i'll give an update too. My Falken 512's lasted about a year, but I drove the hell out of them, and they are about due to retire. I have heard a lot of good things about the Fuzion tires made by bridgestone, so I think I will give them a shot. Plus i cant fine that tire?? you can only get yk420's from discount tire co. yokohama makes it exclusive to us its not a tire you want if you want max performance. i got them on my friggen corolla for petes sake :p | ||
