A local guy, Peter Biondo, lost his brakes and went off the end of the track. Pete walked away without a scratch, but his car wasn't so lucky. Here's what his car looked like (http://drr.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=3476075&f=75460652&m=385108371&r=870105471#870105471) after the crash. It's an 11 second car... WEAR YOUR SAFETY GEAR GUYS!!! It DOES make a difference.

That's exactly why I have all the safety gear for the nines in my car. It might weigh more but it is still worth it. Also that's another reason why I run an e-brake and will always run an e-brake on my racecar. 5 lbs extra weight for an e-brake is well worth it. That sux that there was no sand pit/water barrels. I would be really pissed at the owner of the track and at the governing body of the track.

It does suck, but we do sign a release when we enter a race at any track. Part of that release is to check out ALL track conditions. Yes, it's pretty crappy the shut down area isn't what it should be, but the blame can't really be placed on any one person or group of people.

I saw a wreck at Atco once where the car went off the end of the track at full throttle. Atco has a sand pit, tires and a wall before the "sacred pinelands." This car went through the sand pit, through the tires and wall and into some trees. That car was worse that Pete's - but then again, he went in full throttle, Pete was only (not to make it sound less than what it actually was) coasting by the time he went off the end.

It's a shame. Although I don't wish that situation on anyone, Pete Biondo is one guy that would probably react extremely well considering his track time is probably 5 times that of the average bracket racer.
