tips on installing roll cage

i just bought a 6 point wolfe cage with the jig notch option and the subframe bars to make it 8 point. you guys have any tips on prep and installation? i'm having a buddy do the welding so i need to know any pointers on prep and measuring. the interior is all out except for those wires all over the floor boards.

You've got it easy b/c you bought it all jig notched. A few tips. Use a bench grinder to finish up the notching if it isn't perfect. Weld one side of the plate down first. Then hammer the rest to fit flush with the floorboard. Other than that you just mock it up and weld. The cutting a notching is the hard part. You want everything within an inch of the roof, doors, etc.

Watch out for FUEL lines!;)

Well they are 6.125" square plates. There aren't many placeson the floorboard that are flat that much. It's not hard. Just have to hammer the edge untill it's close to the floorboard.

Make sure your friend takes the time to get the heat correct on some pratice material. The plates are thicker than the floor pan and it is real easy to burn through the floor if the heat if wrong. Also, make sure that your notches have no gap (or at least a little as possiable) for nice clean welds at the joints.

Excellent advice! What gauge sheet metal is the floor pan? Anybody know.

thanks for all the tips guys. i'll post some pics when it's all said and done. i do have to wait 3 weeks for the cage though. speed inc. said there was a backlog on them.
