SHawk670 03-16-2004, 11:47 PM My A/C Compressor has done a fantastic job of being completely locked up and I can't start my car any more because the belt will go no where and when it does start, it's burt belt city. Im wondering how difficult it is to install the A/C Delete Pulley, I just got done replacing my starter to only learn that my ac clutch failed and that was causing my car not to start. Oh well, at least I dont have to worry about a starter going out any time soon.
ledfootz28 03-17-2004, 12:00 AM its not that hard.you ll be glad u did it once u see how much the compressor takes up in space and how heavy it is.3 bolts in the front, the only bitch is theres a bolt in the back i think holding the hose on,i forget its been a while but it wasnt fun.
rock1501 03-17-2004, 01:24 AM I am taking mine out and putting the pulley on this weekend.I was really hoping you were going to say it was cake :D
Yes, it is a bastard getting the a/c compressor out. Mine locked up two years ago and I replaced it which was a mistake. I finished my first year of grad school two weeks ago and started on a cam and heads swap last Tuesday. I hadn't planned on doing anything else, but now that I have the a/c stuff out, the crap is not going back in. Our engines are tight enough in there to begin with. a/c delete pulley is $35 on gmpartsdirect.com.
Spinner 05-21-2004, 08:50 PM Takes 2 secs to put the pulley in, getting the compressor out's the hard part.
Fuels94TA 05-21-2004, 10:01 PM It's not that hard at all, just that back bolt on the compressor will be a pain. But once you have it out the pulley will slap right in there. Also you will like how easy the plug access will be.

krispy 05-27-2004, 01:05 PM ok I am planning on taking out the A/C comp. (have the pulley here) but from the bottom I see many lines running under the comp. (AIR, A/C, steering)
what ones do I need to remove to get the comp. out, it doesnt look like it will be easy to manuever it outta place
whoever has done it please offer up some info
thanks
GREGG 97Z 05-27-2004, 02:44 PM I didnt actually think it was that hard to remove the compressor when I installed my A/C delete pulley. I had it out and the pulley installed in about an hour. That back bolt on the compressor was a little tricky to get to.

do you remember what tubes, bolts, etc you have to take out to get it out, from the looks of it, it doesnt look like i could work it outta there easily
kyzar24 05-27-2004, 10:19 PM where are yall getting the delete pulley? and how much are they?
krispy 05-27-2004, 10:22 PM gmpartsdirect.com

rock1501 05-27-2004, 10:44 PM I did my install in about 1 hour. The hardest part was getting the condenser out of the tight area it is in after I had already disconected it.

Type_O_Negative_1320 05-28-2004, 12:32 PM Related question...isn't the AC switched on when you flip over to "defog"? Does defog even work without the AC?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about taking mine out since the engine is coming out anyways...I just don't want the windows fogging up if I get caught in the rain. If defog works just as well without the AC, then I'll pull it.

I just took out the compresser and condenser.
Injuneer 05-28-2004, 01:01 PM Use the info on Shoebox's website.... no "how to", but at least a couple "blow up" views of the COMPRESSOR (http://shbox.com/1/ac_compressor_mounting.jpg) , and of the COMPLETE A/C SYSTEM (http://shbox.com/1/ac_system.jpg) .
LT1 Bunny 05-28-2004, 01:50 PM man...i must be the only one that almost had the compressor fall on top of them when taking it out! that wasnt too cool.........
everything works fine with out the ac in. the only thing it doesnt do is blow cold air!! :) when you put it on max it will just blow air (what ever temp it is outside and in the engine bay). not too much fun in the summer in NC...but who cares....you'll love working on the car with those darn ac lines out!
