Mikey 97Z M6 09-07-2002, 10:10 PM I'm interested in the Callies Dragon Slayer, or the Racemaster cranks, and I'm trying to find out the major differences between them. I've tried to find the differences on Callies website, but it was a bit vague on the description for the Dragon Slayer. About the only thing it said was, it's a 4340 forged crank, but it did not say if the rod throws were drilled or anything.
Does anyone know the differences between these two cranks? They are pretty close in price, with the Racemaster being slightly more coin. I'm assuming the Racemaster is a better piece.
Thanks,
Mike
TAYLORMADE 09-08-2002, 04:51 AM Both are made from the exact same fordging but the dragon slayer doesn't have the added machine work done on the counter wieghts. I don't think the rod journals are drilled on the slayer.

Mikey 97Z M6 09-08-2002, 12:59 PM Hey thanks guys, I appreciate the info. http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif
Looks like the Racemaster will be my choice.

1LEThumper 09-08-2002, 05:55 PM Well I just snapped the front off of my RaceMaster 383 crank on my blower car. It looks like it might be a defect in the forging but I don't know for sure. When I did call them they were really willing to work with me on getting the problem solved. I bought an entire rotating assembly from them about 1 1/2 years ago. I still haven't heard back from them on what they found out about the snout but either way they said they would do all that they could to fix the problem weither it was my fault (from to much blower tension) or theirs.
I will say that it is a very well machined piece, all of the surfaces are mirror finished, all of the tolerances were almost dead on with each other. I'm pretty sure that I'm one of the rare cases of breakage.

Thanks for that information. If you wouldn't mind, please let me know by email what you find out from Callies. It may affect my decision on what crank I end up with.

Hey is your name Scott by chance?
I place my order through Flatlander Racing, and I had to make several calls in the morning while he checked stock. When I called back he confused me with someone named Scott, who had ordered the same crank as me. http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif
Just curious.

Scott
Mikey 97Z M6 09-10-2002, 02:39 PM Did you place an order for that crank? If not, you missed out man. They had it listed for 999.00 yesterday, and today it's at 1099.00. I just called to make sure I got the original posted price, and sure enough, they honored it. http://web.camaross.com/bb/biggrin.gif Also got the free set of Clevite bearings they advertised too.
Life is good!!
Mike
Slow95T/A 09-10-2002, 02:53 PM Really... I wondered why he kept asking me what the price was... I told him 999. He also gave me the bearings free. This was the first time ordering anything from them so I'll see how it goes but so far I like them.
Scott
WildThing94Z 09-10-2002, 05:46 PM I ordered some stuff from Flatlander Racing about a year ago and the service was very good. They accidentally sent me the wrong piston ring set, but overnighted the correct one to me and told me to just keep the wrong ones.
Nothing wrong with that.
Pete.
