SB2 heads/intake on a standard SBC??
can it be done? or do you have to use a GM Bowtie block. and everything i keep reading talks about a dry sump oiling system. is there a way to convert back to standard type oiling system. also, if it can't, is a dry sump oiling system ok for weekend street use? sorry for dumb question.

Unfortunately i do believe you need to use the SB2 block but i'm pretty sure you can get it to work with a wet sump, you just need some adapters for the block
I remember reading in an older hot rod or possibly car craft where they built one for street use using one of those shops that sells nascar stuff cheap
Honestly, its too much money IMO. If you want that much horsepower, it think it would be much easier to get a set of CNC ported 18* heads used with shaft rockers all setup on a big inch small block (400-427). Thats the better way to go

You can use a standard block but you have to use offset lifters on both int. and exh. (which means solid roller only) and you have to drill holes for the spark plug coolant passages. You can buy used cup sb2.2 heads with only 1 to 2 races on them for around 4500.00 to 6000.00 complete with matching intake, Jesels, valve covers, studs, push rods, lifters, valley tray, rest of the top end. But be careful not to buy sb2 or the sb2.2 restrictor plate heads (Usually smaller than 275 cc intake runner) you'll want the 286 cc or bigger heads. This sounds really big but the runners are longer so they are compairable to a 255 cc 18 degree head.
HOPE THAT HELPS

P.S.
They sb2.2 is far superior to the 18* stuff and it's dang near impossible to find the good 18* cup stuff as it's hasn't been used for several years now. You won't find any that aren't about used up. The 18* head from the cup guys are chevy castings and are very prone to cracking (major problem). Thats why they only use them once race. The sb2.2 doesn't crack and make about 50 hp more the the 18* head. But be prepaired to spin alot of rpm (358--3.335x4.120-- 9300 rpm) alot less on a bigger engine.
If you want some I can get you some from HENDRICKS or DEI.

thanks for the advice guys.
i haven't heard much about those "Arao" heads? Can you give me any information about them or where to look?
As for the spinning higher RPM, do you mean in durability? I was hoping to do like a 400ci+ motor with these heads/intake. Do you mean then that with the bigger engine I could keep the rpms down? I was planning on redlining at about 8000, so would these be a bad choice?

Arao (or formerly known as, I forget last status of the company) makes 4 valve per cyl heads for standard single cam SBC, the rockers I think are 1.4:1 that are used with it, you need custom headers, yada yada.
I think I'd stick to something more traditional as your already thinking, 18º, SB2 or whatever.

TAYLORMADE-
do you get the stuff directly from those teams? or is there an intermediate you get them from? how much would we be talking? and if there is a good block available i'd be interested in that as well. I dont' need the pistons or crank though. Is there any type of warranty or guarantee on them? Thanks, and if you need to you can email me with prices. I'm not looking to do something right this minute as I'm still setting up suspension/rearend. But I've pretty much decided to go this route. Thanks again.

I've typed a reply twice (real long) and lost it both times. Just Email me at kent02@duh.net and I'll get the info from you to get a price for you and answer you're Questions.
I'm tired of typing-stupid computer.
