NuMbNuTs670 03-11-2004, 12:49 PM Traction... Ineed some advice, At what RPMs should I launch at and if their something I should do other then give it less gas to get more traction or how much less gas should I give her? I do prefect and quick shifts but traction is killing me. Anyway here is my horrible time =\
Temp. F, 32
Humidity, 76
Baro., 30.39
R/t, .554
60', 3.154 ( was getting no traction at 2.5k rpms *sigh*)
330, 7.077 ( even in 2nd spinning a little)
1/8, 10.242
MPH, 77.76
1000, 11.805
1/4, 14.071
MPH, 103.43
93Z286Speed 03-11-2004, 12:54 PM from my experince 2.5k is way to high for street tires.. about 1500 or a little more and drive the car outta the hole, give it more gas as is can take it. Pretty much find how much the tires will take and dont give it anymore! I slip the clutch alot when i launch to keep the tires under control. Takes a bit of practice to get a good launch down. other then that for the mods a low 14 is pretty average.. but the 60 foot deffinitly isnt there
My Red 93Z-28 03-11-2004, 12:58 PM The cold track temp. didn't help your traction out any;)
When i went to Muncie dragway (in Indiana) it was about 50-60 degrees and i launched around 2500-2800, just kind of peddling the gas and i hooked up alright, except for when got overexcited and dumped the clutch every once in a while.
My Red 93Z-28 03-11-2004, 01:00 PM you need to try to find the fine line between bog and spin in your car
SnakeKilla 03-11-2004, 01:10 PM get some DR!
they are not too expensive and will give you an average of 2.0 60ft times
your 60 ft times are way up there
96ta(nick) 03-11-2004, 02:27 PM go from an idle and you will probably hit a 13, get some DRs for a mid 13 ;)
ibanez6rg 03-11-2004, 02:31 PM  MY first time down the track = 15.1 @ 94!! :D
'94 Bad A Z28 03-11-2004, 02:35 PM One of my first runs was a 15.3 @ 100.05 :o
smacz28 03-11-2004, 03:14 PM My first run at the track was a 15.4 @ 99!!!! :) I came out sideways looking at the wall....had to totally get of it and then back in...
Shawn
96ta(nick) 03-11-2004, 03:28 PM first run 14.5@100 eventually got it to a 13.8@102 adding only nittos and some good weather with a little practice ;)
MauriSSio 03-11-2004, 03:45 PM did you only make 1 run??That timeslip makes almost no sense, even with that horrible sixty foot.post the other runs as well.i just dont see how a 14.0 would be possible with that 60' time that 1/8time & MPH and the 1/4 trap speed. none of it seems to match up.
Cmr0z28 03-11-2004, 04:03 PM Get some sticky tires on there and you'll have a 12 second car if you can cut a 2.0 or less 60' time!
MauriSSio 03-11-2004, 04:32 PM he wont cut nothin if he cant get respectable 60's with street tires
ZZtop 03-11-2004, 04:42 PM Your comment doesnt make sense to me Mauri. If he is launching at 2500rpm, spinning like crazy and netting a 3.1sec 60', then some DR's should net him a 2.0 or less 60'. Most DR's will hook at a 2500rpm launch on a good track. You dont have to be good at launching street tires to be able to launch well on DR's. Too different worlds in my opinion. I agree that the timeslip seams weird, if you have any other runs, post those so we can take a look.

Mauri is right, the timeslip does not add up. No way in hell will he run a 14.0@103 with a 3.1 60", he would be lucky to run a 14.7
NuMbNuTs670 03-11-2004, 09:34 PM My bad, typo, its suppose to be 15.071
Achilles97 03-12-2004, 03:28 AM The first and only time I ran my car at the track I was severely hampered by my Vasoline-brand tires.
I ran a 2.6 60 foot, 9.4 1/8th @ 82.5 mph. Those times suck for that mph. I think I could have got even more mph if I was able to give it full throttle in the first 2 1/2 gears without it spinning.
I need tires.
93Z286Speed 03-12-2004, 10:43 AM i ran a 10.90...
my bad typo i meant 13.90
Bow94z 03-12-2004, 10:51 AM 14.8,14.7,14.4, evrytime i bogged the motor down at the launch:bs:
My Red 93Z-28 03-12-2004, 12:22 PM My first time at the track i ran a 14.27 @98 or 99 mph on my first pass with 275/40/17 dayton Z rated tires. That was my best run until my last run when i ran a 14.26. I tried to keep the rpm's between 2500-2800, and that was with about 135,000 miles on the car
CamaroGuy22 03-12-2004, 12:42 PM My first track pass ever was a 13.9@100 w/ 2.2 60'
I made two more passes that day spinning more...14.0@100 w/ 2.3 60'
The car has mid 13's in her if i can get a sub 2.0 60'.
My next mod: BFG Drag Radials....maybe some LCA's.
30thANNIVZ-28 03-12-2004, 01:17 PM Your trap speed is good enough for a mid 13! The Key is to get your 60ft down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 97 ran 13.8s all day long with just CAI.(Mine is an A4 though) The more you cut your 60ft down the more your E/T will drop. Suggestion for next time on your street tires put the pressure down to about 22lbs or so. People say this and that about street tires but the best 60ft I've ever pulled off was a 1.717 on my stock 16x8s. And that was on N20. SO if you fiddle around with your launching and your tire pressure, you'll get that mid 13 with what you've got.
MauriSSio 03-13-2004, 03:50 AM hooking up has a LOT to do with how well the track is prepped, more than you might think.
sean1997ws6 03-13-2004, 07:38 AM I leave on Kuhmo's at 2000 and slip the clutch out. like someone said ,drive it out of the whole. once you feel the grip nail it and give em hell. My best 60' on street tires was a 1.97. Hell with that 60' you must have a pretty strong car to pull off a 14.0. Just cut a 6 tenths off that 60' and i seriously wouldnt be suprised to see you in mid 13's.Best way to do it is just keep racing it , you will feel it and get use to it. Good luck
Sean

The original poster screwed up his post. It should have been a 15.0
JONEZ_Z 03-13-2004, 12:45 PM My Red 93z28,
Where in Indiana do you live? I go to the Muncie Dragway as much as I can. Maybe ill see ya down there sometime. I have a Green 94 M6
stereomandan 03-13-2004, 01:19 PM Your trap speed seems pretty good for your mods.
Getting traction is tricky at the track, especially with a M6. I had problems too, my one and only time to the track so far.
I had the opposite problem as you. I kept bogging. The track prep was great and I was not used to getting so much traction. My best that day was a 14.4 @ 98. That was with a 2.2 60' time. Completely stock except for CAI. 86 degrees, 80% humidity.
You should easily see mid 13's with your trap speeds.
