convertz 03-10-2004, 01:35 AM Thinking about getting some tints done. Not too dark as i want to be able to see at night. Will cops be pulling me over? I know that I can't pass state inspection and im OK with that, but I dont want cop problems.
thanks

Iroc627 03-10-2004, 11:40 AM I was getting pulled over once a week and thats all I got stopped for. Nothing was ever a moving violation
Mtrhds94Z 03-10-2004, 06:19 PM Rear window is OK but not fronts..
You need dual outside mirrors for it too and also don't cover the 3rd brake light..
Should pass inspection this way, too, since it's 'legal' to do..
matt98ls1 03-10-2004, 07:12 PM 20% tint all around, and haven't had a problem yet.
i have inspection in 3 months, so its going to have to come off by then, unless i figure out another way...:D
convertz 03-10-2004, 07:48 PM 20% is about what I was thinking, mabee even a little ligher all around but if I am gunna get pulled over it probably isnt such a great idea. Whats the ticket cost?
ledfootz28 03-10-2004, 10:09 PM yea i got pulled over when i had like 5% all the way around.the cop said the back window can be as dark as u want it but the sides limit is 70 visibility i think he said.all townships are different.

Just to clear things up, the tint percentage varies with each state, not townships ( http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html ). I believe townships are able to regulate how much the ticket is, but the actual amount of tint allowed is regulated by the state. Some towns are strict about the ticket and fine, others couldn't care less.
I had 35% on the front two windows and 20% on the back, and it didn't look bad at all. The front tint started peeling off a bit, so I got it replaced for free, and went with the darker 20% instead. I personally like the look of the 20% better, but its going to vary with each make/model, each car color, etc...
ledfootz28 03-10-2004, 11:31 PM oh ok,whats the tint limit in PA then?
matt98ls1 03-10-2004, 11:53 PM PA is a weird state when it comes to tint....you can research all you want, but basically the only thing you are going to find is...
The PA STATUTE (the actual law) only prohibits tinting which
"does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle."
Take it as you want, there is no clear-cut answer. but my opinion, anything less than 25-30% might be in that region of "permitting site"
Antz97ZNJ 03-12-2004, 03:46 AM I bought my 97 in NJ w/ tint all around, id have to say i was pulled over between 4-5 times in the first few days just for the tint....my buddy in his 93 was harrased bigtime about it, he was pulled over by the same cop twice and on the second time the officer took a blade to his driver side window...jersey definately blows for sure
chasmanz28 03-13-2004, 03:24 AM i got pulled over for having 35% on my side windows, so take that for what its worth
Aeromaks 03-13-2004, 03:41 AM I have 35% all around and had 1 ticket, and was pulled over maybe twice for it. In my town not that big of a deal, as cops know my car already.
as long as daytime or sunny, no biggie, at night, eh, who knows. on a hazy day, you can really see it. dont forget, our cars are already tinted from factory, so 35 on hours is not 35 on other cars.
our is darker. as far as inspection, go to a private inspection facility, most dont care for tint, or just roll down the windows. =)
