Cast 383 Crank experiences? - Good and Bad please....

I posted this on LT1 Tech whith limited response. I thought I would try here.

Ok, here's the deal... I have a Summit cast 383 crank that broke at the front main journal. I believe this happened because it was improperly balanced or the stock harmonic dampener (which was drilled from the factory) slipped or was not included when balanced.
Anyway, I'm going to replace it with a cast crank because I don't feel I need to go with forged. I would like to hear good and bad experiences with cast cranks.

My machinist prefers the Eagle cast crank over the SCAT 9000. I will not be going with another Summit crank.

Any opinions on the quality of the Eagle vs. the SCAT?

My engine builder found my Scat harder to balance than Eagles but it turned out ok.

Hmmm, that's interesting! SCAT's website says they make their "Knife Edged Counterweights profiled for Ease of Balance"

I guess their design isn't so easy to balance after all.

Thanks for the info

I had the Scat crank on my N/A 383, and it worked great. The motor saw 7000rpms several times with a CC306 , and made ~460rwhp. I also used the Scat I beams, and they held up great also.

My Scat 9000 383 crank has held up to several 7000 RPM blasts with no problem.

Yeah, but that is just because your car is slow.

Just wait for the 200 shot to go on. Then will 9's be slow?
