I can get a couple of 18" y2k's REALLY cheap to complete my set. They are painted though, and would need to be chromed. Luckily I just found out my Dad knows a guy who could chrome them for cheap. My question to you all is, are the already chromed rims I have from an aftermarket company (they're brand new) going to match these if I get only the two painted ones chromed? I just want to make sure there isn't levels of tint to chrome. Lemme know what you think?

They should. Besides, they are far enough away no one will be able to tell.

chroming used rims is a bad idea IMO...... i haven yet seen a pair work out with a defect in them.

i'd look for a set of 4

So you mean the chrome falls off? Or the defects can't be hidden? If you could be more specific that would be great.

Now, on to the topic at hand...

Seriously though, your only problem I think would be if the chroming job your dad's buddy did wasn't quality, then it would have problems flaking off etc. Chrome doesn't cover defects in the metal all that great - I do know that, but it will coat on top of them with no problem, it just sticks to whatever is there.

You got any pics of your car Johnny? From your sig it sounds like it should look pretty clean.

Thanks a lot for the help!

I am putting a call into the guy's shop today.
I'll let you know.

No, no pics as of yet. If when I take it out of storage (after spring break, I might take some.

Basically whatever the rims look like now, they will look like when their done, only shinnier. Chrome doesn't fill in big imperfections like say coating a set of rusted headers, its not as thick of a film. But if the older set is in good condition, no gouges or big chips, then they should come out just fine and depending on what type of metal it is - like forged aluminum - it fades with time and must be polished every few times a year (well maybe less then that but...).
