When should I shift94foormula 09-08-2002, 03:47 PM My cam peaks at 5900 RPMs, what should my shift point be? I have an A4 by the way. Deadcarny 09-08-2002, 11:28 PM i would shift about 200 RPM after the curve starts to drop (depending on where in your power band it puts you). 96z 09-09-2002, 10:46 AM I just used a program on the internet to figure out my shift points. My cam peaks power at 6100, it told me to shift at 6400 RPM. dayusmc 09-10-2002, 08:52 AM When should I shift on a Stock motor? ------------------ KYLE-SERGEANT USMC 97 Trans Am with minor mods. EMAIL: dayusmc@marimecorps.com stevil 09-10-2002, 09:05 AM Ever dyno? Stock, I think it shifts at 5700 rpm. Looking at my dyno chart, my HP curve levels off at 5000 rpms, so I'll try shifting at 5200 rpms and see what happens... maybe 5400. I don't think raising it above 5700 rpms would do much on my car. ------------------ FormulaV8.com (http://www.FormulaV8.com) · 1994 Formula · A4 · 3.23 13.45 @ 102.5 MPH w/ 1.9 60' | 267 rwhp | 307 tq/lbs | 3535 lbs "I know for a fact he is NOT an Easter bunny" stevil 09-10-2002, 02:02 PM Hmmm... Using Tunercat today, I found that my shift RPMs and MPHs seem way off... 1->2 5344 2->3 5400 3->4 5344 1->2 36 2->3 73 3->4 126 2->1 31 3->2 67 4->3 118 Those should be factory settings too. http://web.camaross.com/bb/confused.gif Now I swear the car shifts around 5700 rpms, and I know the mph is around 45 at least... Are these lower numbers used because it takes a little time to shift? Should I put in my desired shift rpms and mph exactly, or should I lower or raise these? I'm thinking I'll do the latter. Lets say I want to shift at 5300 instead of 5700, I should change 5344 to 4944? And lower the mph a bit? 96z 09-10-2002, 03:16 PM Stevil, I dont have an LT1 edit file with me but those look like stock tranny files. What gearing do you have in the program? That will change the MPH shift points. stevil 09-10-2002, 04:15 PM When I have time I'll upload the .lt1 and .bin, but yeah, it should be a bone stock file for my car. Car came with 3.23s and still has them, I'm not changing those. I guess I'll see what happens. http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif dayusmc 09-11-2002, 08:05 AM Steve- I just looked at your .bin- It is bone Stock! Those # are the same as my #'s I am still trying to figure out how to shift when I want to. Those Stock #'s are confuseing. Thae way Hal Fisher explained then to me was: The RPM #'s were the MIN RPM the car can shift out of in WOT, But the car accutuly shifts from MPH. But don't forget that the cars tach is probably way off! Does anyone have the Fomula to figure out RPM from Tire size, rear gear, and trany gear? ------------------ KYLE-SERGEANT USMC 97 Trans Am with minor mods.
