95Bird 03-02-2004, 03:52 PM Set a new best MPh this weekend but no new et. I spun pretty hard to a 1.54 60' and went 10.96 @ 125.7. I like the mph but wish I could have hooked it like the week before and pulled that 1.45 60'.
Da as +750 and race weight was 3420 ish.
Tim
ba96ta 03-02-2004, 06:47 PM Your definitly layin the power down with that MPH, are those numbers N/A?
T/A lt1 03-02-2004, 06:56 PM That extra throttle helped huh? Hey I e-mailed b/c I wanted to ask you a few questions since you have been doing LT1's longer than I. Shoot me an e-mail @ clint.schexnayder@cingular.com. Later Clint
95Bird 03-03-2004, 01:35 AM Yep..thats Na.
Clint..sorry..I got your email but was planning to reply later..then I forgot ..sorry and will reply tomorrow.
blkchevyz 03-03-2004, 10:02 AM damn thats impressive.
what are you shifting it at? from your site it looks like your still running the stock computer.
95Bird 03-03-2004, 10:38 AM Shifting at 6850ish. Thought I had my high end studder problem fixed. I moved it up some but it starts studdering at 6850. I need to shift at 6950. Yep..still running stock computer.
95 Silver TA 03-03-2004, 11:24 AM Impressive!!:metal:
Thx,
Claude
Just curious, but what kind of power are you putting down at the wheels.
Randy
95Bird 03-03-2004, 02:08 PM I made 435 rwhp through a 9" and 4.71 gears last time. I should be making more now though. I will re dyno here soon to find out if it actually is.
blkchevyz 03-03-2004, 02:52 PM i would think you would be closer to 500... i dynoed 390 and i trap around 115... you got another 10 mph on me
95Bird 03-03-2004, 03:16 PM Like I said..it should be a tad more now...but no where near 500 rwhp. Its the cars total setup running these numbers..not just the dyno numbers. I"m getting to a point where the car is almost perfectly setup for what its doing.
blkchevyz 03-03-2004, 03:19 PM do you know how much your car weighs?
also how is the torque?
T/A lt1 03-03-2004, 03:42 PM Tim there quite a few things you could improve upon to get the car quicker in the 1/4 with your current hp level. With 125mph traps you should be able to et 10.50's-60's. You should try some radial slicks good for 1 tenth et and there are alot of little tricks out there and I am sure you have a few already but you never know until you try something new. Later Clint
95Bird 03-03-2004, 08:32 PM Torque was in the 420 range with over 380 ft lbs at 3200 rpms.
Clint..yea...share away..or im me. I'm all about little tricks. I've tried to get frank to share em but he is stingy. Its justharder with a stick car at this level. But I determined to get it. The racers tell me that at about 11.5ish .....you will always go faster with a auto.
taner 03-05-2004, 10:53 PM congrats! that is great mph and a great et! only a matter of time till the tracks open up here :) i am still in the process of seating the rings. my 11.01 on motor has been haunting me, oh well only 4 weekends away till i can race the car :)
can you say tens for fun :) then two weeks after that my 6 speed record will fall...... i hope ;)
my guess is you are making about 450 at the wheels, damn 4.71 gear ratio!
CRCDUDE 03-06-2004, 10:07 PM racers tell me that at about 11.5ish .....you will always go faster with a auto. [/B]
:alert: I dont know who's smokin what, but if yer car runs faster with an auto then thers somthing wrong with yer chassie setup.
If this were the case then prostock guys would run auto's..
I think you found the xtra mph with the tires spinnin/ keepin the R's up. If the track/ chassie setup would take it... try leavin 3-600 RPM higher. Its obvious yer lil 355 likes the RPM = (shifts @ 6850+)
Tricks = brain power,, grease everything, maximize cooling do everything you can to make the engine spin easier I.E. bigger pullies/ remove un needed/wanted items (per class rules)
Synthetic lubes ... ANd dont forget to air the tires up:D
95Bird 03-08-2004, 11:06 AM Taner, thanks man. I'm guessing around the same thing now at the wheels....at least over 440 I believe. Get that car to the track man, I can't wait to see the new times.
CRC..the prostock guys run a true clutchless tranny...If I could run that I agree with ya that a manual would be faster. But Our t-56 trannys(and their gear ratios) compaired to a good Auto and converter...at these speeds..I feel the car would be quicker with an auto. I haven't tried all those tricks yet...but I plan on using them this weekend at the spring break shootout.
CRCDUDE 03-08-2004, 11:46 AM Well its been well documented that even the lowest frictional loss Auto trannys STILL eat 10-15 HP more than a stock manual trans.
The lower ones that I know of are the 350, 700R and the 200 metric. Niether of them will last very long in a 3500lb race car leavin on a trans brake every pass. And if yer not gonna put a brake in it then you may as well keep the manual cause yer 60's will be fer sh&%.
I didnt think the T56 had that bad a gear ratio's.. But hey, I guess ya never know if yer combo needs somethin different till ya try Huh:D

What are you talking about???? Great track times with automatics is all about torque multiplication and the transbrake. I'm willing to bet that a t56 car with the same flywheel hp and a th400 car with the same flywheel power, the th400 will go quicker.
Just cause it eats up a few more hp doesnt mean ****.
taner 03-08-2004, 01:30 PM under four weeks now ;)
i would love to throw a 4.71 gear in for some all out motor passes! my cam makes power up to 7k, so i could make good use of the power band. i will have to keep my eyes out for a spare pig, that'll accept 35 spline axles :).
running the traps at under 6k on motor sorta kinda bites
.....not!:p
the n/a 6 speed f-body record is 10.59. hats off to Jason 99T/A for holding that one for a long while now  . i am uncertain that won't be beaten at some point this year, not necessarily by me but we shall see.
95Bird 03-08-2004, 02:00 PM I'm after it...New setup in the planning/build stages right now. Jason is a good friend of mine and if his new combo works out..he may just break it himself this year also.
taner 03-08-2004, 03:00 PM it is going to be a very intyeresting year, maybe someone with an m6 breaks 9's ????? hmmm that would be too cool, an all motor 9 second 6 speed.
95Bird 03-09-2004, 10:10 AM yea..that would be cool. But that sucka would need alot of HP. We had one down here that I think could have made it but he converted to an auto.:( He made 64x rwhp all motor ls1. He went 10.6x witn 470ish rwhp. Would have been a fun ride.
I agree...this year is going to be very interesting.
jonaddis84 03-10-2004, 03:30 PM I am hoping to be able to brag with you guys this summer with my new combo. Of course it wont be until I can affor the 9" and track wheels/slicks, but I should be able to put down some good times if I make the kinda power Joe thinks I will (BTW dont wanna hear anyone naysay here).
Hopefully I can even lay down some mid 11s runs on my kumhos :)
BTW awesome traps there man...those are some high mph for NA 355.
Taner if you could break into the 8s that would be ridiculous. hell your halfway there through the 9s almost!
taner 03-10-2004, 04:26 PM is it april yet, lmao!!!:D
