I think you already know what is wrong - the god awful 60 ft. time. Buy a set of nittos and practice. You should be able to pull 2.00's on a set of nittos pretty consistently. A good friend of mine had a 93' M6 car - CAI, gutted cat, air foil, muffler... it ran 13.705 @ 101.28MPH on a 2.11 60ft. at Orlando spinworld. His car had a worn out set of radials on it. When he first got the car & it had new tires he pulled 60 ft. times similar to what you are experiencing.

OK SO I NEED NITTOS BESIDES TRACTION ANY OTHER LITTLE THINGS I CAN DO TO GET THE CAR TO RUN A 13.40-13.50 BECAUSE WHAT YOUR TELLIN ME IS MY MPH IS GODD FOR AROUNDA 13.7'S WITH TRACTION SO I STIL LNEED TO SHAVE 2- 3 TENTHS TO BE HAPPY :)

:o Forgot to mention, he had a BBK UD pulley also. That was $75 and worth a solid tenth and MPH on his car. So yes... your car should easily go 13.70's or even 13.60's if you can get that 60ft. time down around 2.00 - 2.1, this will kill you... my 86' ran 14.017 @ 95.25 once - (That was with a baiscally all stock 87' 5.7L Tpi motor, I guarantee it runs a lot faster than 14.00 now. :D ) It's all about traction. ;)

So, if you want 13.40's - 13.50's.... you're pretty close. Get it to hook up first, then consider cheap/free stuff. The UD pulley is one, and maybe pulling out the spare tire & jack if it hooks good. You also should look into free mods if you havent already... they won't add a ton of HP & TQ - but it all adds up. HTH

It's all in traction, I've run 13.3xx @ 102 :).

YOU GUYS THINK MY REAR END WOULD HOLD UP TO NITTOS WITH 102 K ON IT??

I wouldn't be worried a bit, the stock 10 bolt in my 86' held up to a full year's worth of hard launches on BFG drags. The 7.5 in my 86' was weaker than the one in your 96' too. With the old set up it was averaging low 1.7 60 ft. times. The rear had 144K miles on it when I pulled it and stuck it iin another car. I went with a 12 bolt because of the increased power of the new motor and because I will be running slicks vs. drag radials.

A general rule of thumb is that for every tenth you shave off of the 60' it's worth 0.15 off the 1/4 mile time. In theory if you cut a 2.00 60' that would put you at 13.549 for the 1/4 mile. I have cut a 1.967 60' on street tires but it's much easier with an automatic.:D

YA KNOW JEFF I HARD LOWERING THE CAR EVEN MAKES TRACTION WORSE.. BUT IT HASNT SEEM TO EFFECT YOUR CAR AT ALL????

When I do spin now I get wheel hop though and that's probably why I'm breaking transmission mounts. The 1.967 was before it was lowered but I did cut a 2.004 the other night.

WHAT MPH WERE YOU RUNNING JEFF??

Jeff94TA

On Wednesday 2/18 it ran its best 1/4 and MPH ever. It was a 13.83 @ 100.xx MPH. So yes your MPH indicates she's got a lot more in her and all you need is traction or someone who knows how to drive. :D

My 86' had eiabach lower springs in it when I was pulling the low 1.7 60 ft times. Now, that's not to say it wouldn't have done better w/ a more "drag race" oriented suspension. However, typically you will be slower off the line w/ lower springs - they don't let the front end lift and the rear squat as much as stock, or drag springs. You might want to try V6 springs and see if it will do both - lower the car and help it weight transfer better.

By pass the hot water hose that runs hot water through the TB. It should come off the heater core and route into the pass. side of the TB, and exit on the lower left side of the TB. It was cake on my LS1, I just took a piece of appropriately sized steel tubing and bent it to shape and cut it to fit. On my old L98 motor, I was able to find a hose at the local auto parts store that was shaped like a question mark (?) and make it work. If you don't have a CAI, you can cut the aafce of your air box off to get more air to the filter. Some people de-screen the MAF sensor also. One of my traction tricks is to put jamb nuts on my sway bar end links and back th factory nuts right up to them to give the front sway bar some extra room to travel when the nose tries to lift. It's beats the crap out of pulling the front sway bar off just to race.

I once had a mustang... been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Haven't looked back since.

T/B BY PASS WORTH IT?? DOES IT REALLY MAKE ANY DIFF? It's not going to give you any major HP gains, the benefit is from the TB not getting additionally heated up by hot water from the cooling system. The factory did it so that the TB wouldn't freeze - in sub zero temperatures, we live in FL, so it doesn't even come close to applying to us. I look at this mod as every little bit helps.

YEAH THATS VERY TRUE PLUS A GOT A MSD 6A ING YESTERDAY HAVNT HOOKED IT UP BUT IM HOPING IT WILL BE GOOD FOR SOMETHING ANYWAYS LOL...

ALSO OFF ROAD Y PIPE? WORTH IT?? AND HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

The igniton box should help, I have read that the ignition systems on LT1 cars are weak from the factory and need some help. As for the y-pipe, don't bother. Save up for some long tube headers and an off road Y. You'll need 02 extensions and and 02 SIMMS as well when you get rid of the cats. Those mods, in addition to what you already have, plus some much needed traction would = very low 13's and good enough sound effects to make you forget about how your mustang sounded. :D

Nah, not at work... online on one of my days off spending my tax returns. ;) SLP has a special on take off 17" SS wheels, I ordered a set. :D I'm tired of those fugly, factory 16's on my car. Anyone want a set of 2000 Z28 16" wheels? You can split them up into 2 sets of 2 with a buddy and use them for drag tires.

WHAT KINDA SUS MODS DO YOU HAVE EDDIE?

What tires are on you car Eddie? DR's?? BTW, did you get your car back yet??

I'm gonna wait till I get my Nitto's next moth before I go back to the track. These 18's are just worthless for traction. But I gotta see what hte dyno show's first on the 13th.

What tires and pressure did you run with?? you could probably drop it some next time you go.

With your MPH, mid 13s are in the cards. The best investment I ever made was a g-tech pro. It allows you to learn how to drive your car to get the results without having to go to the strip or make a full ¼ mile pass. You can find a place out of the way and practice your launch technique and see what works over and over and never have to make more than a 0-60 blast. Then once the best technique has been practiced, hit the track and see the results. G-techs are notorious for giving people a higher than actual mph at the end of the ¼, but ET wise, they are a fantastic tool when used to perfect your driving or to evaluate mods. ;)

Nah, if they were the chrome factory wheels - I might have considered leaving them on the car. They are just your standard silver snowflake wheels found on the base Z28's 2000 & newer. When I get tires for the 17's, I'll take $100 for the (4) 16" wheels. $25 a rim, can't beat that.

I might could part with mine. A set of 98+ chrome 5 stars with Falken 245/50/16. The wheels are awesome except for one very small ding on one lip. Doesn't affect anything and really can't be seen unless you know it's there. 2 tires have mucho tread left, two are a little thin. Shoot me an offer via PM and we'll see. I don't live in Orlando but drive through there all the time.

The only suspension "mods" I have are lowering springs and a STB, both of wich are SUPPOSED to kill your 60' times. :) lol
