Mach 1 vs modified WRX

Late last night, a buddy and I are riding out to the bar. We see the local Mach 1 (blue) and decided to wait a few minutes on the beer. We get lined up at a light. I told him to throw him a few revs and see what happens. The guy didn't really think too much, and we both left the light at normal speeds. He must have gotten view of the plate (V8EATER) because at about 30mph the Mach 1 just took off and flew by.

We're behind him at the next light, there's a Ford Ranger in the other lane so we can't get next to him. The light changes, and we both take off at a normal pace, until about 20mph or so. Then the Mach 1 sinks back and starts taking off. We follow suit. Started out about 4 cars ahead of us, we were in second and had a little turbo lag to deal with. Third gear, still 4 cars ahead. Other than the half a car we'd lose/gain between the 2 cars shifting, the Mach 1 wasn't getting away, but we weren't getting any closer. 4th gear. We're still in a dead heat. About 100-105mph, the Mach 1 hits the Brembos, and the nose of the car almost hit the pavement. He made a left at the light and we slowed down to the 40mph speed limit, and kept going straight, then turned around in the mall parking lot.

The driver of the other car must have taken a side street, couldn't find him to talk to him. It appeared to be bone stock down to the factory Goodyear Eagles. It might have had a few things under the hood, but since they're almost LS1 speed from the factory, it was probable that it was stock.

We've done some pulls with my 2002 Z28 and his WRX are pretty much even from 30-100. Very impressed by the new Mach 1, I've always been a fan of the 32V 4.6

What road were you going 105 mph on near the mall??? The roads are busy as heck around there.

What does his WRX look like? Maybe I've seen him around. I've seen a white '04 WRX wagon and a silver WRX sedan driving around town.

My buddy in Midland has an '04 Blue WRX wagon. I helped him swap his up-pipe. He's getting COBB tuning this spring, and he also has a new rear sway bar and rear strut tower brace and new KDWS's.

Seriously, a wrx that can run with a 13 flat car from a roll...That is a 12 second wrx. The mach 1 probably waited until a roll so he wouldn't get murdered. Good run.

Yeah, he definately was not interested in going from a stop. To bad he wouldn't actually get lined up and took the cheap way out by just going when I was directly behind him. Now if I hadn't had a passenger (he was solo), 100lbs of crap in the trunk and 2/3's tank of gas, I should have put a solid walk on him. My car is starting to have some serious driveability issues though. Boost is turned down to fight knock in the up and down weather. Peak power is alright, but the power curve shrunk a ton when I went to a front mount/headers. I honestly think the car was quicker 0-80 before I did that stuff. Going to get the headers jet-hot coated and then see if I can try my luck with a different tuner who'll focus mainly on everything below the curve. If I can get my powerband back, I won't be worried about much of anything on the street from a stop.

Now if I was spraying, none of that would have mattered and I would have smoked him badly :D

How do you know he didn't have a full tank of gas or sandbags in the trunk? ;) It's a RWD in the winter, remember :p

For some reason Robvas did not film either of the 12.1 runs. If you insist I can have him scan in the slips to match up car numbers, dates, whatever you want to look at on them. There are at least 3 members on this board that witnessed it and a very surprised 12.4 at 117 blown 5.0 Mustang owner can vouch for it.

Which would make him very smart. Had the WRX got the lead, the Mach probably would not have caught up.
