So I just got my a** handed to me by my girlfriend...

So Friday my girl picked up a 2000 Trans Am/M6/Loaded. (Wonder who influenced that one...) Its got 53,000 miles on it and hasnt exactly been kept in pristine condition. Only mod, that we know of, is there is no muffler. Just pipes (actually sounds good!). Then you have my car (in the sig) that has been babied since day one. Only regret is I wasnt able to get the M6 at that time of the year brand new. So anyway, my buddy and I take my car and hers out on the flightline and go about 5 runs. First, I killed him (TCS was on). Second and Third, I killed him (missed 3rd). 4th time he ran up on me and looked like he might take me (girlfriend was in my car). 5th he took me!!!! Only by about 1/2 a car length but damn! What the hell? Does a Manual make that big a difference? Im pretty sure that the Trans Am and Z-28 are on par for performance right? I cant have my GF be faster than me. Just cant have it...

Well first off, how fast were running up to when you were racing?? if you start getting to really high speeds usually the manual will pull an Auto. Second, 1/2 car really isnt that much considering that you raced 5 times and only once did he beat you. In my opinion, if a guy with a manual misses a gear, thats tough luck for him..us auto guys never have to worry about that. :D Third...Trans ams...and Z28's are dead equal..and considering that neither one of you have any really serious mods the results are not suprising at all in my opinion...But, i can see your point..i wouldnt want my g/f being faster than me either..lol..well also consider this..how good is your g/f driving a stick?? is she as good as your freind?? Because with that last race...if your friend would have been shifting a little bit slower..maybe he would have never gained that 1/2 car on ya. If your really that concerned with it..just get a torque converter, with cam&heads...you wont have to worry about her at all! Or you could go the cheaper route and put a 100 shot on her..either way...you wouldnt have to worry about her car anymore. good luck man!

Well my thing was he wasnt pulling slowly the 5th time. He was pulling HARD. And then I caught up towards the end, but the 1/4 was long over. Granted I layed about 20ft of rubber on the ground but still. But no my G/F wont beat me. Its just the principal of the thing. And her driving the 6spd and me with the A4 is KILLING ME. Im actually considering a Tranny swap now because of it.

Just say no to NOS.

I dont think I could stand the fact that she could do the same thing and beat me again. I thought the 2002's were a little faster then the rest?

lol ur g/f has a stick and u got an auto. i'd never buy an auto unless it was gonna be a full out track car ;) But anyway, no surprise the m6 pulled on u. m6's dyno about 10 hp higher normally plus a good m6 driver will shift faster then A STOCK automatic.

If you want to win races, you drive an automatic. However, a stock M6 will take a stock A4 everytime. However, change out your convertor and you can pick up a full half second and will outrun any STOCK M6 car.

I raced a s/c lt1 Z28 A4 (he used the manual shifting though) in the time it took his car to find second i pulled almost a full car on him.......and whos getting beat?

BUT THEN AGAIN THAT WAS ALSO AN LT1

P.S I guess i should mention that he ended up winning after third....so i guess i cant get too cocky:(

the 02's have the ls6 intake but a smaller cam so they arent really gonna be any quicker than your car apples for apples but a manual car usually has 1-2mph stock for stock against an auto so at the top end he will pull you. Get a converter and be done with it...she'll need a bunch of bolt ons to catch up to you at any point of the track then :)

How did you get out on the flightline to race? What flightline was it? I know the flightline out here is pretty well restricted access.

Ours is now city property. And the flightline hasnt been used since Vietnam. Took a while to find a spot in good enough condition.

No way in hell would the best shift jockey shift an M6 faster than the Hughes TH400 with that Trick Shift fluid in my friend's 79 Z28. :) However, compared to a regular 4L60E, my friend, who is pretty decent, but nothing real special, can shift every bit as fast as most stock autos. Sure the Hurst helps out, but this isn't speed shifting or anything. The foot still leaves the gas.

Dude, I wouldn't sweat it too much.

On the good side, when I finally got used to the car and the transmission, only THEN did I pull on ya! (5 tries!)

Gearing Gearing Gearing! You've got taller gears!

On the bad side, if that was MY car, and I was all Farfignuggen with it, it would have only taken one run to pull you! :o

I'd like to run again, for real at the strip. while the Cats away (and you know what I mean) the mice will play, what do you think? I'll even spot your racetrack fee.

Were you going from digs each time? You do have 3.23's in your car right? Both cars should weight almost equal. Should be close each time like you stated.

I'm going to have to disagree with this. No matter how good a shifter you are. an automatic will consistently outshift you everytime. Autos have always been the preference of drag racing because of that. From a roll, well, nods go to the manual.

I am glad my g/f has a 93 sentra.....high 16's I believe. Sucks when we take her car but I will never get beaten by her so all in all it is ok.
