What's to do in Victoria, BC?

I have a buddy whose wife is planning on kidnapping him for a weekend soon. She plans on taking him to Victoria, BC and is looking for idea's on stuff to do/see while they're up there.

Any ideas? I have family who live on the island who I'll also be asking, but my buddy loves offroading, truck mods, hunting, shooting range, etc... not exactly the same stuff my cousin does in her spare time. :p

Buschard gardens is the only place I've been on the island, back when I was a kid.

Anything for a late 20's couple to do on the island besides the gardens?

i was just there today with a few of my girl friends while we tried to paint that town red. but it wasn't happening. there's really not much to do there, bowling alley's are filled with seniors, the mayfair mall is filled with 14 year old girls, the cinemas are all playing out of date movies and pubs are the retired (previously overworked) bachelors or husbands that isn't at the bowling alleys with their wives and her bridge mates.

but there's always whale watching, little boat excursions, quiet, romatic bed and breakfasts and brunch at the empress. if your friend was looking for more outdoorsy sort of activities then surrounding cities have some good things to do.

I stay away from Vancouver Island, boresville. It isn't worth the cost of a ferry ride. The best time I ever had there was doing a bicycle trek with the BC Lung Association all over Sannich Peninsula, Shawinigan Lake and the Gulf Islands. Nice ride on a hot sunny summer day and beautiful homes on the oceanfront.

Go to Craigdarroch (sp?) Castle. look around it.

Robert Dunsmuir built it, but died before its completion. His wife was worth over 200 million back in 1890.

Bow down to the british =)

Yeah that castle is a great and interesting half day trip. I bought the biography of the family as a result of that trip to that house and it too is a fascinating read.

No bridge!! Then we will get too many of you mainlanders over here!! ;) :P

There isn't much exciting stuff to do here when the weather isn't nice. Whale watching would probably be a good one. I think there is bungie jumping in Nanaimo, but that is 1.5 hours north. There are offroading places, but I am not involved with that at all so I don't know where to go. Check out http://www.island4x4.com/ for more info. There is lots of touristy stuff here: Royal BC Museum, Wax Museum, Miniature World, Undersea Gardens, Crystal Gardens, Butterfly Gardens, Butchart Gardens, carraige rides, etc. As for outdoorsy things: Goldstream Park, East Sooke Park, Gowland-Todd Park, Beacon Hill Park, etc. Maybe this site will have some info for you: http://www.victoriabc.com/
