um...10mm wider diameter ;)

that is to allow greater flow with less restriction.

as for which one is better...6 of one half dozen of the other

Keep in mind the MAF is a measuring device and the PCM is calibrated to read it's inputs ... change the MAF and the inputs are no longer accurate and the PCM can no longer make accurate AF/R adjustments ... I lost power on the dyno with every AM MAF I tried ... upwards of 23 rwhp in one case ...

so i shouldnt put a maf?

The stock maf is not a restriction. It is capable of well over 500hp. There are lots of big power motors using the stock maf.

Will it hurt or help to descreen the maf?

Leave the screen on. I breaks up the turbulence of the air flow coming into the engine. Have you ever taken a screen off of a faucet and seen how crappy the water comes out? The same principle applies here.

is there a difference between the slp maf and the granatelli brand?

One more time ... the MAF is a measuring device and the PCM is calibrated to read it's inputs ... change the MAF and the inputs are no longer accurate and the PCM can no longer make accurate AF/R adjustments ...

Specifically, the PCM is calibrated to the stock MAF ...

Doesn't the computer "learn" about the new MAF and make adjustments? I put in a SLP 85mm MAF with the new lid and noticed a big SOTP difference. SLP was $175, Granatelli is like $300 or something like that.

The SLP MAF is the same MAF put on 6.0L vehicles but they are recalibrated to work with the factory ECU

Seat of the pants is absolutely the worst dyno ever built.
Take it to the track with the stock MAF then change it to the new one. Back to back runs.
Aftermarket MAFs are the biggest waste of money on a stock or near stock LS1 that anyone ever came up with. Heck you might as well go out and buy a Tornado.
Look at my sig. That's with a stock motor and a stock MAF.
