Klypto 02-18-2004, 10:30 PM ok, getting my tax return money real soon....
getting either SPEC stage III clutch
or
4 ZR1 17x9.5 wheels(nitto 275/40/17 rear, dont know front)
clutch will be 380+install(can get installed for cheap)
wheels will be 1100-1300 with wheels and tires...(700 for 4 wheels+tires)
im geting 900 back... soo would need to fork up some more for tires....
now i do need a new clutch(cant do a burnout without killing the clutch(at the track)
i already have 245/50/16 nitto 555r's on it already...
pulled: how i am now...(with a little slipping in 1st and 2nd from clutch, and like i said, i cant do a burnout before i run...so tires not heated up)
r/t .074
60' 2.102
330 5.869
1/8 8.862
MPH 82.65
1000' 11.386
1/4 13.544
MPH 104.87
what you guys think?
thx

96SFLZ 02-18-2004, 10:52 PM IMO...function over form.
If you're looking to hit the track soon then go with the clutch. If not, go with the wheels.
You're stock clutch will probably hold up for a little while longer (if you don't abuse it) so if you really don't care too much about getting some better track numbers then why buy a new one?
Klypto 02-18-2004, 10:54 PM for me, #1 is performance, way down line is #2 looks...
only reason for new rims is so that i can get 275 tires... instead of 245... if i had the 17" wheels, i wouldnt be buying new ones... :(

Lucas Black 02-19-2004, 01:44 AM maybe you could get the clutch, get it installed, then take the leftovers from your return and get something else! like...maybe a lid?
Klypto 02-19-2004, 01:47 AM i thought about a lid, but... for 100-150 is it RLY worth that?!?! i mean gaawwwd

i got this from another current thread about lids....
"Stock airbox 321.3hp 13.12@108.76
LG motorsports 325.4hp 13.00@109.9 $89
MTI 326.2hp 12.92@110.24 $99
Quarter Mile performance 330.2hp 12.96@109.73 $75
SLP 331.1hp 12.94@110.04 $99
Texas Speed&Performance 331.5hp 13.07@110 $95
Whisper Motorsports 330.7hp 13.02@109.44 $139"
so for a hundred bucks...i'd say its a worthy investment...and just about every other ls1 owner i know thinks so too....
Klypto 02-19-2004, 02:03 AM yea i just read that, checked out this...

is that worth it? looks like it would be much better then a lid...

and also....you were thinking about paying about 1300 dollars for a little more grip. you already got nitto's on your 16's. get the new clutch, be able to heat up those tires, learn to get some good launches on em...and you'll be fine. the difference between those and the 275's can't be THAT much when dealing with the same tire.
so 1300 dollars for a bit more tire to the ground...and if you got those, you still wouldn't have the clutch to support 'em since it's already slipping.
or a clutch that can grip, and a hundred more bucks for a fair amount of hp for what you pay...
your money....

as far as i know....not much different...and also 3 times as expensive...
..and personally speaking...i like the way the lid looks better than the FIPK
Klypto 02-19-2004, 02:45 AM well yea, if oyu think about it as 100% performance, 1300 for lil more grip is not worth it, but its also nice rims, love the way they look, but yea, as of now, im mainly for performance... i want mid 12s(i know its not that hard).... but yea getting a clutch...
thx all

Not in my opinion. Too much underhood heat.

sounds familiar... :)
robvas 02-19-2004, 08:48 AM A lid is easily good for a tenth or two in the 1/4 mile. I've tested it myself at the track. SLP lids are very cheap, too.
Be sure to do the free ram air mod along with the lid.
245/50-16 and 275/40-17 nittos....just stay with the 245's
How hot/humid was it at the track when you went? The reason I ask is because your mph seems low.
Thought about a cut-out? Dynomouth?
LS6 intake possibly? ;) Headers?
An M6 with a lid, cutout, and drag radials should easily run 12.9
Klypto 02-19-2004, 01:40 PM im getting headers.... FLP... just not yet
SpeedzAdisease 02-19-2004, 06:46 PM BUY CAM PACKAGE !!!! Thats what I would do.
Klypto 02-19-2004, 07:32 PM nah, no internals yet.... still paying for car, im 19, and cant afford if anyting breaks...(major anyway) and for clutchs
im 90% sure i want SPEC stage III, but what are the other choices for price range(i see stage 3 for 385+shipping

i would do some research in the drivetrain forum.....i, myself, when i replace my clutch, am just going with the z06 clutch...do some research though before deciding....
Klypto 02-19-2004, 10:48 PM i have, thats why im posting, been thinking about it for months now.... where to get a Z06 clutch?

hope you like it...i've heard that the spec stage III is quite a switch from stock...from the way you drive with it and the stiffness of the pedal. i've heard that the stage III is a very "on/off" clutch...in a sense, you spend a whole lot less time slipping the clutch out even during regular driving...so you might have to change a little in the way you're used to shifting. i might be wrong...but that's just what i remember hearing from people who have one.
i know its a bit late since you already ordered it, but i personally think that a stage III is a bit of overkill for a car as near stock as yours....
Klypto 02-20-2004, 02:39 AM it prob is, but ill be "carefull" with it... i do not intend to keep it stock.. may be a year till i can DUMP money into it... but it will happen...once im done paying off the car(about 1 year), the money i have goign toward the payment... most of it anyway, will be mod money...
and since i need a new clutch, figure might as well get a good one now...

silv3rsw33t 02-20-2004, 07:31 AM Man if I had $900 to spend on car goodies I would of gone with
1. Pacesetter/Hooker LongTubes ($380 - $400 coated I think?)
2. ORYP (somewhere around $180)
3. Loudmouth ($300)
4. TSP Lid ($120)
Probably well over 1k but your talking probably close in the neighborhood of 40-50 extra horses...........(sigh) wish I was getting money back!
