I spent last weekend swappind a motor into my Z/28

when i bought the motor the heads had been removed so i reinstalled them.

i did not use thread sealer ( i didnt know i was supposed to)

on initial start up i noticed sweet smelling white smoke from the tailpipes, but thought nothing of it.(I'm a retard i kow)

i was able to drive the car maybe MAYBE 20 miles and the thing overheated but didnt show an overheat on the temp guage

the car slowly lost power and stalled
when i stopped steam came billowing out of the carb

i noticed antifreeze dripping off the intake manifold onto the exhaust manifolds and there was antifreeze in the oil but not vice versa

a friend got it running today but it keeps overheating

give me some suggestions please?

u said there was antifreeze in the oil..as in u pulled the dipstick out and it was white-ish/milky looking? if it is and u drove it a while im sure the motor is done for and now its time for a rebuild.

good luck

If it's got coolant in the oil and has been run hot, then it's got a blown head gasket. Or maybe a cracked head. And possibly bad bearings (depending on how much coolant was run though them instead of oil.)

Run a compression check on all 8 cylinders, and if any of them are more than 10% less than the others go ahead and tear the heads back off. You may also want to run it for a couple minutes with a GOOD mechanical oil pressure gauge to make sure the bearings will hold pressure. Let us know what you find.
