I'm thinking about doing the HSR+cam swap this spring

Heads are a bit too expensive right now.

Already have springs+1.6 rr's on the car right now.

Stock converter with 3.27's

cc305 too big?

Any suggestions?

Heads are very important in the equation. I would not buy a cam now to get 20 HP only to find out that later it will not fit the new improved set of heads. How about saving up for the new heads and when you can afford them, install the cam at the same time. You do realize that getting to the cam is not the easiest thing in the world, right?

Done 2 cam swaps on 3rd gens before.

"Peanut cam removal" on LG4's, never done one on a TPI.

stock heads dont flow that great unless you port them... so putting a cam in without doing anything to the heads is pretty pointless. i'd either port out my stock heads (i did for 600$... but you can do it yourself for cheaper) and get a nice cam (comp camos 08-502-8 with stock converter), or just save up for some AFR's, get yourself a bigger cam (08-503-8) and a 2400+ stall converter... might as well get a hydra rev kit from AFR if you're going to stick with hyd. lifters so you can rev that sucker to 6500, even though i probably wouldnt want to rev it that far, lol

How did you manage to sink $600 into a home port job?

he didnt, he didnt do it himself i dont think, it sounds like he took it in and had them done, but hes stating that you can do it yourself for much cheaper, but alot more time and work -- its worth it though, i plan on doing my own very soon.

You can buy a set of aftermarket heads for $1000 complete, and sell your L98 "Corvette heads" to someone local for some inflated price like $500. Sure beats having your stock ones re-worked

Was curious to see if anyone had some track times or dyno #'s with stock heads and a stealth ram or LT1 intake.

Rob, LOOK AT MY SIG BRO!! LOOK AT IT! All those mods for a 13.7 @ 100. You aren't gonna gain ANYTHING with a stealth ram and a cam on that car. You may go slower. The heads and cam are the DECIDING factor in your proposed project. No if's and's or but's about it. I was so pissed at the HSR for not gaining anything I almost threw the TPI back on there just to see if it was faster with THAT setup after ported heads and 1.52 rockers, injectors, etc.

My car has very few mods and Bob ran a best of 13.79 @ 102.8

it does have edlebrock headers and 1.6 rr's

Rob look at the bottom of my sig. 13.71 @ 100 flat with ported heads, 1.5's, HSR, 270H cam, 3.73's, shift kit, panhard, subframes.

What I am saying is, after I did the HSR swap on the current setup, it gained nothing. I lost my low end torque but gained enough in the upper rpms to even out my track times at 13.7. Ported heads and HSR gained me .02 and 1mph total. You can try the HSR on stock heads if you want to, just from MY experience it won't do much for you IMO.

there was a gain when i swapped from the slp/edelbrock to the hsr. look at the graph. you'll notice i went from a flat 11.8 a/f to a quickly rising 11.8 to 15.0:1 don't expect the hsr to make some huge difference without getting the prom tuned for it. later on i did some prom work at the track. i picked up .2 with it. because the hsr flows so much more air it needed the extra fuel. still needs more. but putting a 383 in within the next 2 weeks.
