pulling the motor

how long and how hard is it to pull the motor on a 3rd gen v8 car (86 iroc auto)any specail way or tips that make it a lil easier ? thanx alot in advance

hardest part is the top 2 bellhousing bolts, you can get them from on top with a wrench

Not bad at all, just time consuming. There is a lot of crap connected to that motor. *cough*SMOG*cough*

The top two bellhousing bolts can also be had fairly easily with a 2-3ft extension and a universal.

the couple i've pulled, you couldn't get to the two with a extension and a universal, due to the fact that a metal flange is comiung down from the firewall and blocked the bolts

It worked fine on my 5-speed car and I did the same with my auto car. The Auto/L98 car was butchered though, so maybe it wasn't all stock.

How long and how hard depends on the equipment you have. :eek: :eek: Do you have a cherry picker or do you have an engine crane? DO you have a floorjack or do you have a car hoist. In the open or a garage. What tools? Have you done this before?

yeh i have msot major tool jack cherry picker and msot sockets and wrenches ect, done it beofer but in a older ford pick up ... a lil but mroe room and a lil less electronics :p but this will be my first time on a 3rd gen so iwas wondering if you guys had some lil tips or if you had any issues the first time you've done it

Put little tags on where the wires go if you do not think you can remember it all. Better yet, just do it. You might take pics or video of the areas you think are tricky.. Take out radiator too. Makes smashing the engine into radiator a little harder.

Pull the motor and tranny out together and put them in together. makes life much easier.

no way man,if u have a cherry picker and u dont need to take the tranny out,just make sure u take the hood off,flip it over and lay it on some sheets on teh roof of the car and pull the motor straight up. ive done it both ways (2 times w/ just the motor,1 time w/ the tranny+motor) and it was easier w/ just the motor. with the tranny connected to it,it was hard to get it at a steep angle to get them outta the car sinse the front end comes up alot when u take all the weight off of it. and yes,the rediator was out.

We had no problems pulling the complete assembly and putting it back in.
We had one of those bars that allow you to change the center of gravity,
