Double Hump Crossmember

A buddy of mine has been doing a serious build on his Malibu. A few weeks ago he bought abd received a "double hump crossmember" for his transmission, seen here: http://www.transmissioncenter.net/gforce_double_hump_crossmembers_.htm.

Well, I've been looking to get my exhaust redone anyway, so I'm curious if anyone with a thirdgen has had something like this done. I'm running full length headers and I lose a lot of clearance since the pipes are ducted under the crossmember. A fabricated crossmember like this would be a godsend!

It's been discussed on TGO but to my knkowledge noone has done it. I believe the biggest problem is the odd angles of the front subframe rails in the 3rd gen.

Plus the stock "hump" in the crossmember fits up inside the "bubble" in the pass. footwell on a 3rd gen F-body. The floorpan on a G-body like my Malibu is much less severe in that respect and so you can fit a double hump crossmemeber or box the stock crossmember and still maintain reasonably ground clearance with true duals.

I had the local muffler shop box my stock crossmember and run the driver's side pipe through the box. You can't tell it's modified looking at it from the side and no pipes hang down very far. No "speedbump problems." F-body would probably be a very different story.
