Can't say that I'm necessarilly into trucks or Toyotas....but this one was very cool in person. No price announced, but the impression is that it will be very affordable.
Wonder how the Colorado ZQ8 will compare?
87camracer 02-15-2004, 02:15 AM i think that looks very sweet. only if chevy would do something with that single cab short bed SS silvy they showed...i guess in another life time.:(
90rocz 02-15-2004, 02:25 AM I personally don't like the front end, it's too big and boxy("flying brick"), especially for a "Sport Truck"...the scoop looks interesting but in a useless location, but the color & body treatment looks good and the performance don't sound bad...tho a little underpowered for its competition.
One thing, if these Trucks are getting 300+Hp, then a new Camaro should get well beyond that, say 400..just to keep it interesting.
Chuck! 02-15-2004, 11:50 AM I hate to say it, but I like the way that looks. Not quite as much as I like the current xtreme S10, but the 4.3 isnt exactly making 300 hp either.

I think it'll be the "powerhouse" in it's segment. Why do you think it's underpowered for it's competition?
:barf:
I don't like it, Id rather have a Silverado SS or Lightning.

Just guessing on price....but I don't think you'll get either one of those for UNDER $25K.
Maybe even less....Toyota intends this to be an entry level product. I think comparing it to a Colorado ZQ8, would be a more fair comparison.

That will certainly be interesting to see. While the S10 Xtreme seemed to be a bit unappreciated (probably because of the age of its underpinnings), it was a pretty capable performer if we're talking anything but straight-line acceleration.
Looks to me like GM could really use a turbo I5 or a slightly warmed-over N/A I6 in their small-truck lineup, if the competition is going to be offering 240 HP standard and 300 HP with a dealer-installed blower.
The pieces are in place for GM to hit a home run - let's see if they can make it happen.
Pandamonkey 02-15-2004, 02:46 PM Holy Crap!
GM better get on the wagon!
That Toy even comes with a nice 6speed.
Stupid Canyon/Colorado is still stuck with the lowly 5.......
What the hell are they waiting for?
I know it's cool to arive fashionably late but c'mon........fashion's going to change by the time they decide what to put on.
number77 02-15-2004, 03:08 PM the old s-runner wasn't to bad either, it was just never advertised\, you could barely find it on the web site if you knew where to find it, lol
Z284ever 02-15-2004, 03:56 PM Again, nothing official about cost, but one press release says that Toyota wants to position the X-Runner to appeal to the Scion crowd. That would put it at WELL BELOW $20,000. Is it possible to get all that stuff for that kind of money??
Anyway, if it costs somewhere in that ballpark...I can't help but think, it'll be very popular.

You won't get 300HP for under $25K, maybe the 240HP version.
I think the ZQ8 looks a lot better, it would be nice to see chevy throw a 300HP Gen IV 4.8L V8 in there.

Yeah, it will be interesting.
I always found the Xtreme package alittle difficult to look at. I always prefered the S10 ZQ8 ( "Xtreme without the plastic"), and Sonoma ZQ8.
I think the ZQ8's are simply the neatest little trucks to come out of GM in a long time.
This may sound crazy....but every now and then, I toy with the idea of finding a used one to go autocrossing with.

I saw an S10 Xtreme at a local autocross once - it did pretty dang well.
It'd be interesting to see if tossing-in the ZR2 8.5" rear end and its torque arm would be of benefit in putting down the power on corner exits.
Chris 96 WS6 02-15-2004, 09:00 PM I just don't think 220hp from the I-5 is going to cut it. I really hope they have some V6 or even small V8 announcements lined up over the next few years for the Colorado/Canyon, otherwise it will be woefully underpowered vs. the competition in a couple of years.

Considering that the S-Runner goes for $20,700....I'd guess that the 240 hp, X-Runner would go for under $25K.
Factor in about another $2-$3K, which TRD will probably charge for the supercharger and installation kit....and you've got a 300 horse, .90+G, street machine, knocking on 13s...for probably under $27,000.

A turbo I5 makes the easiest solution.

and the SSR...with talk like this coming from the New GM, looks like 300hp is not enough to keep things exciting..

Forget that TT Trailblazer....it's just an engineering concept.
The SSR is a $42,000 boutique vehicle.
I don't see how you can compare these.
90rocz 02-16-2004, 02:54 AM Since this is Toyota's ONLY Sport Truck offering, isn't it meant to compete with the SSR, Ford Lightning and RT-10 also, sure it's cheaper, but as I said underpowered...

HUH?
That's like saying that since the Tiburon is Hyundai's ONLY sport coupe, it is meant to compete with Corvette.
And does the SSr really compete with Lightning and SRT-10? I don't think so.
