I am dazzled yet upset at the same time... I raced a porche 911 turbo on the highy way in the Burbank Cal. area, no big deal right? I kick their ass all the time on my gsxr 1000. This one was different. Body was stock, exhaust LOOKED stock, just another rich man looking for an ass kicking. We went from 80mph to 160mph. We starded door to door... we stopped door to door. That was one fast F***ing car with a passenger which bared an uncanny resembelence to Jay Leno.. I swear on everything that was him in the car, not to mention I was in the Burbank area! We all know how big of a car guru that guy is... anyways I need like 25 shot on my bike, this whole car hanging with me is completely unacceptable

Try from a lower roll. The higher the starting mph for a bike the worse advantage you have.

Yea I have heard that leno has like a grip of cars. I wish I could stay with a gsxr from any mph. My friends neighbor has a brand new gsxr and we raced it in my friends v6 3.8 and he was standind on the bike and stuff while going like mid 100's. I love street bikes but would never have one because I have heard stories.

LOL!! i have never understood the non-bike rider's obsession about telling a rider about the person that they know/knew that was in a bike accident. when i rode full-time, i never had the urge to tell my non-riding buddies about the people that i know that have been in car accidents. i just don't get it...

It's a lot more dangerous to ride a motorcycle than drive a car. It's a proven fact. People can't see a motorcycle as well as a car. They pull out in front of bikes more because bikes are not intimidating compared to a car. There is no seatbelt on a bike, they weigh sh** compared to a car. It's like a 100 lb. foot ball player getting creamed by a 400 lb. one, not pretty. Also, there is no metal around the bike rider protecting him from cars. A lot of my buddies have ridden and owned bikes. They all have lots of horror stories about the bikes compared to the cars. And they probably log about 5% of the miles on the bike compared to the car.

i am well aware of the physics involved, as i am sure that most anyone who rides is. 99% of the riders out there know and understand the risks of streetbike riding much better than joe cardriver ever will. just curious as to what compells the non-riding populace to point out the obvious or to tell a rider what they are doing is potentially dangerous.

Nobody is saying to not do it because it is dangerous. I just said that I wouldn't do it because I thought it was dangerous. Plus I have a lot more reasons then that, like I don't like having to wear the helmet, being outside while driving that fast is a weird concept to me, not having a lot of places to carry things, not being able to roll with your friends, and most important to me not being able to have a nice sound system going while driving, that is my favorite thing about driving.

i never said they were. it's the "heard stories" part that brought me to post. you have your reasons for not riding and that's fine. but, would you ever walk up to a total stranger and tell him/her about how your uncle larry lost a foot/arm/liver/head on "one of those things"? and if so, why?

No, I am not against motorcycles at all. I think they are bad @$$. I would ride on one if someone else was driving it but I just don't trust myself on one of those.

I would not talk to a total stranger about that. I would love to own a bike, but every time I get on one I get hurt. They are so much fun and such a rush. There is no better speed / dollar spent. But they are too dangerous for me.

you'd be suprised by how many ppl have told me just that or something similar. i've always wanted to jump up and say "holy ****!! you mean that these things are dangerous?! can i get a ride home?"

I know you said you are sick of hearing car guys tell bike guys how dangerous they are, but...

Yeah, my friend in college died on his street bike. Not his fault either. Old guy turned on his right blinker so my friend went to pass on the left and the guy in the car turned left instead of right like his blinker indicated. My friend T-boned the car at highway speeds. He's dead. Never coming back.

Street racing is dangerous in a car or bike. Either way, it's just that people aren't used to watching out for bikes. One of the things I was looking forward to was owning a sweet bike when I graduated from college. After my buddy died like he did, I don't ever want to own a bike. It's not that I couldn't drive safe, but it's all the other idiot drivers out there that aren't paying attention.

Sorry about another story like that.

BTW, that's one heck of a fast Porshe. Worthy of the Porsche name I'd say. I'm sick of seeing these dudes in the Boxster that think they are driving some ultimate driving machine.

Didn't mean to bring down the mood of the thread. It's been about 8 years, so it's not something I think about all the time. Still keeps me from getting that bike I always wanted though. Just not worth it for me anymore.

I'd rather put the HP into a car that at least has a body structure, seat belts, and airbags. :)

People do talk about bikes being dangerous a lot, and I used to get sick of it too. I used to tell them that it's just that people who ride bikes that try to ride too fast and crazy. If you ride safe, they are fine. That is... until the accident.

To tell you the truth, I don't think bikes themselves are dangerous, it's the other people on the road who can't drive. The danger of the bike is relative to the person driving it.

after surviving 10+ years riding in a big city, i have become hyper-aware of what other drivers are doing. to this day i still let off of the gas and prepare for brakes/evasive action when around left turning vehicles. i learned a long time ago that there is only danger when there is danger. and that danger almost always involves a turning vehicle.

That's got to be one of the dumbest comments I've heard in a long while.

You don't want to ride one because you think they are potentially dangerous, but yet you'll put yourself in a situation where you're not only riding one, but that you yourself have no control over...

You said you went from a 80mph roll on, what gear were you in? If you werent in second thats why he was still there at 160mph. A Gixxer 1000 is the strongest stock street bike from a 60 roll I ever raced with my 162 RWHP Busa. Now know I weighed 260 lbs when I was riding, most guys on Gixxers and R1's were lighter than me by 100 lbs, I had to run into 5th gear to catch a Gixxer 1000, but I would real him in handily. My bike topped out at a 186 GPS certified mph, with one tooth up on the rear sprocket bumping the rev limiter, not a car I rolled with could stay with me, most didnt even try.
