Hey guys, I want to get rid of my A/C. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I dont have the serpentine belt setup, standard v-belts. I dont really want to take it to a shop and get it depressurized.

Thanks

Just take it off. When you open the system, it will hiss out and when it does, walk away and come back when it is done.

You can do it in your garage. Just don't breath the gas. Not sure if it is toxic or whether it will make your nuts fall off. Just don't inhale.

If you want to shave weight you need to remove everything connected, that means condensor, compressor, dryer, and lines. You could even remove the evaporater out of the heater box ( little work there),most people would leave it in until they need to replace the heater core. If you just want to gain a few ponies then all you need to do is remove the belt from the compressor, and just leave everything hooked up.

Forgot to say that a lot of A/C shops will buy your R-12,they won't vollanteer that information but if you ask they will tell you if they do.

Well, even if they buy it off you, they might charge something for the extraction and what not. By the time you get anything from them, it might be more trouble than what it was worth. Make a call or two but if not, vent it for all I care.
