New track; If they built one in Flint, would you go?

At this point, there is rumor that the Don Williamson is going to build one North of Flint.

He already owns one in Wisconsin, so I think that he has some experience.

If the track was nice, would you visit it?

BTW, it will not be in the getto. In fact not even in Flint, it would be Clio/Mt Morris area.

That's a heck of a lot closer than Stanton!

Isn't there a place in Clio already?

I think they had a 'drifting/street racing' event there last fall.

I live in Hemlock so it takes me around 50 minutes to get the car to Stanton. Not sure if Clio would be any closer or not. What exit would it be off? It takes me 20 minutes just to get on 675.

Sounds good to me. And I don't care if it's in the ghetto. It's not like I'm gonna live there.;)

The Clio exit is 131 off of I-75, I believe Mt. Morris is 126.

I've also heard this rumor...

This is a perfect spot for a strip!

Clio is maybe 25 minutes from 675. I used to work in Otisville which isn't too far. Plus, I'd rather drive down 75 than 46 any day.

Yes, there is a sign advertising it right off I-75... there will be alot of things going on there, and one of the spots on the sign says "auto racing"

Im from clio, Clio is NOT Ghetto!!!! Mt. morris is pretty ghetto, but where the track would be is not in town of mt morris, It would be right off I-75 , and there is a truck stop there, and is a better place...

From what I hear they are not going to start any of this until that velvet touch that is there is taken down...

and yes it it auto city that did drifting this summer..

Whatever road it was that leads up to 1BADLS1 racing, (clio rd?) WAS GHETTO AS HELL. I have never in my life seen so many vacant buildings. Vacant shopping centers ect. One corner had 3 vacant gas stations and the one that was open was beat to ****. I sure hope its not in that area!

Hey Robvas, where in Otisville did u work?

I'd be there, no doubt. Perfect spot for another track in michigan.

I hate driving all the way over to Stanton even though it's a nice track. It's too far away from everything.

Like others said, you don't have to live there, you just want to race there. They are not going to build a new drag strip in a nice area anyways. People living around it would not put up with the noise.

Clio may be a little ghetto, but Stanton is out in boonyville.

Excellent point! The wealthy wouldn't stand for it for one minute. There'd be lawyers, public hearings and politicking going on like crazy.

The poor, especially if they don't own their home, have little to fight back with. They may have issues such as how to pay for the week's groceries as opposed to noise, etc.

It's a goddamed shame, really. Watch where they site nuclear waste facilites, solid waste incinerators, landfills, prisons, etc. It's NEVER near the rich folks.

I'm definitely down with the idea. If it is close to the Eway and a halfway decent facility, ill take it! I just dont want to have to worry about getting jumped when im trying to enjoy a day at the track!

Quasar,

How far is that from us in the Sterling Heights area? hour? hour and a half?

If i remember correctly Williamson had tried to open a drag strip in that area but do to zoning issues the idea was dropped, Now i believe he is opening a indoor race track, motorcross etc... i could be wrong on this, has anyone heard anything new? I know flint street racers would love to see this happen, and if decent i could see this being a very good investemnt on williams part... I do believe he also concidered purchasing AutoCity a couple years ago also, but didnt happen for some reason.

Later,
Greg

The school district. Columbiaville, Otisville, Otterlake....

Clio isn't a ghetto. It's a very small town. You've got a few kids there that are about 5 years behind everyone else, but it'd be a perfect place for a race track.

Thanks for someone finally agreeing with me, but what do you mean by 5 years behind? lol. I would love to move out in the "boonies" WAY more peaceful, do whatever you want, make all kinds of noise, and no one cares! and you would usually have alot more land...

I was in North Branch today.... Id love to move out there somwhere :)

Yeah, I guess you're right. Clio is not Ghetto.

It's more like a small town area. It's just that things are creeping up that way.

Right now it's no where near ghetto.

I shouldn't have referred to it as "a little ghetto", it's just that things aren't as nice there as they used to be.

From m-59/Van Dyke, it would probably be 60 minutes. Milan is right around 60 minutes from me with no traffic, but its a pain in the ass drive switching 20 different freeways. A track like this right off 75 would be great. It would benifit us north of the city more than those on the west side or downriver.

I probably would... it would be about the same distance from my house as milan.

I'd check it out, but like Killerjello, I'd be interested in seeing another road race track. Maybe we could make one? Locate it off I69, north of Durand, or something.

Funny how time changes things. Why, it wasn't but ten years ago that a "pretty fast" factory car was one that could bang off a 14.0 second quarter mile. Even the real fast ones, the Grand Nationals and the turbo TA's were high-13's.

Hot rod Mustangs were whipping off 13.8's on nitrous, and mid-13's were enough to win most street fights. Tuned Port was still cool, but LT1 was the WORD for high-tech performance nirvana.

Today, 14.0 @ 100 isn't much on the street.

And with some of the new turbo cars out (EVO, STI) and the 03 Cobra, you can go 11's and 12's without much work.

I'm going to have to figure something out :)
