5th Gen 2-door or more??

Since were getting into hatches again, some are saying they hope it's not a sedan.
What if, (I hate saying that..), it has 2 regular doors and 2 half doors that open like a 3rd door on a pick-up??
Does anyone remember the 4-door, Trans Am concept a few years back??...sorta puts me in mind of the "SS Concept" vehicle..... It could happen...
Other than having 4-doors, it looks a LOT like an evolutionary Camaro... minus the "name"...hmmm:think:
If it still looks like a coupe, but works like a 4-door, would you kick one outta your driveway??

What 4 door Trans Am concept? You have a pic?

No, sorry, I've been scanning old Mags but no luck so far...I remember tho it was almost like a wagon, or CRX rear hatch. You could fold down the seats and probably fit a sheet of plywood in it...

Are you joking? No way. It would never happen and I recall RP saying something about the Camaro having to be a Camaro. Thankfully. :)

If it has anything close to more than 2 doors, I am not buying.

Even suicide doors cause ugly body lines and seams, and awkward B and C pillars.

Keep them on Saturns... not Camaros.

Yes yes! 4 doors is just wrong and what else is unacceptable is a Camaro that is a closely related 2door version of a 4 door car like the Previous Monte Carlo and Lumina.

I totally agree here too...

We can not have a Camaro and another nameplate put out in a 4 door version like the 95-99 Monte Carlo and Lumina.

And don't try to trick us by making the 4-door a Buick... we'll figure it out! ;)

I think it is a great idea to Have a RWD V8 coupe with suiside doors. Just don't call it Camaro. Maybe that would make a good Chevelle.

I don't think he's saying make it a sedan, but closer to the conifiguration of the ION quad coupe and RX-8. Not four full doors but 2 full doors and 1-2 half doors.

I like the rear quarter doos concept, but I personally don't think it's place is on a true sports car because you sacrifice styling somewhat. I think the Ion pulls it off a little beter than the RX-8 with the black-out panel behind the rear quarter doors simulating glass and keeping the rear window on the top surface, and keeping a racier shape.

I just can't keep but thinking the RX-8 starts looking a bit sedan-ish at the C-pillar.

2 doors for the Camaro, form over function here.

You are probably thinking of the Kamma back (sp?) TA's. They built a couple of 2nd gens and one or two third gen examples. It had a sort of wagon look. Ugly as homemade sin, if you ask me. I've got a few photos if anyone is interested, I can scan and post them.

I wouldn't mind seeing them, I don't remeber these strange creatures.

This topic was beaten to death by Camaro fans when we first saw pics of the RX-8. Please let's not go there again!

Anyone suggesting more than two doors on a Camaro should be shot imo. :D

A GM rep actually surveyed me on this at the 1978 Chicago Auto Show.

Boy, where have we seen that tailgate hatch before :D

as for the two half doors, i say NO

the half doors just do not flow right to my eyes yet. i've seen them on the Ion and the RX-8, and it doesn't look right.

Yeah, I believe it was the Rageous...or really close to it. It still looked like a 2-door, just had 2 really short suicide doors and the hatch was like the Rageous..
I believe if they do it well and right, the door and a half won't be much longer than the LONG doors on 3rd Gens...the average on-looker will NOT be able to tell it has the 2 small doors that would make the rear seat VERY usable...BUT if they make the small doors too long, it would screw up the body lines and I would definitely be against it..

Big,long, but light Scissor Doors..

http://www.cadillaceurope.com/english/news_events/desig_techn/cien/en_xx_doors.htm

If I had too much cash to burn, I'd find a way to convert my 4th gen to have scissor doors

you know, after reading about awd, and 4 doors on a camaro, and all this other bs on it...i'm really sick of it personally
if you want all this fancy crap (performance on the fly button), awd, 4 doors, and everythign in between, why doesnt gm just make a whole new car without taking a name from the past?
call it guliad or ***afayno, whatever
i mean, you guys come off to me as trying to make the camaro practical (which i agree with jg that it never really was) but i can expect some sort of this
but when we talk awd (i drive in snow too, it isn't necessary, trust me), 4 doors and everything, why even try to label it as a camaro?
you basically want the camaro to come back but don't want to have the associated history (all 35 years of it) to come into play
it's like the vette
it doesnt need to be awd or have 4 doors, or even be turboed or anything else because it fills it's niche
if you think by adding all these fancy options and stuff will make people come, you're all wrong
it might attract a few but the camaro didnt sell in its later years for a few reasons, which i feel, dont include not having enough options or being "practical"

I was NEVER talking "4" doors, more like 2 small door-like hatches behind the doors for easier access to the rear seat area.
I love the Old Camaro's probably more than most people, but do you think a retro would sell good today, a true to its heritage no frills, straight line performer???Drum rear brakes, vinyl interior, heavy doored gas guzzler??NO!..
Everything must continue to evolve to some point to survive...
Staying true to its Heritage goes beyond cosmetics, it's NO COMPRIMISING Vette-like performance with 4 seats!...and then some!...

AS I said before, I'm 100% against a "4-door"!, but 2 small door extensions would be interesting to see before judging, and if nearly invisible, why would people care??If they're small enough NOT to affect the body flow lines, why would it be different if you could see fitment lines or not??
(It doesn't have to be anything like an RX8!)

Enthusiasts would care after all it's not an econo car like Saturns or some japanese car. It's not CAMARO.
