any way to protect paint from cones during autocross?

i went to an autocross today and rode along with a few cars and had a ton of fun. i would probably do this in my car however the cones can wreck havoc on the car's paint. is there any way to protect the paint on the front of the car?

Put a nose bra. That'll help some.

just make sure youve got a good coat of wax on the car. any marks you get should rub off by hand or with a little waxing/polishing compound. i havent had any problems getting marks off the car. or do like some do and tape certain areas of the car up before the event starts.

Use a decent wax or polish and any marks will come off easily. I'm going to use some of that blue painter's tape behind my tires this year (to keep race rubber and tar off of my white paint).

Simple....Don't hit them

Like the other guys said, a nice coat of wax will let you just rub them off.

I haven't used anything special yet. When the door panels and nose did get scuffed, a decent polish took it out. You might consider clear shelf lining paper - the cheap mans car bra.

Which event did you attend?

3M also makes a plastic film, with adhesive on one side like scotch tape. Can be cut to fit and works well for road trips too.

Well, I'm way too lazy to wax the car before going to events. I paid $60 for the bra. Put it on the night before, take the thing off after the event. Done.

Anyone know where to find this stuff?

hey guys, as far as tar and rubber I've heard for ages that you can smear some vaseline or something of that nature behind your tires when at the track, and the rubber just wipes right off w/o sticking to the paint. Don't know what to tell you about the cones though, the other guys have already given all the ideas I can think of.

Isn't every cone moved off spot or tipped over a 1 second penalty? With wins decided by hundreths of a second, if you hit a cone, you've lost anyway. IMO, concentrate on NOT hitting cones. Even if you are a beginner...novice, slowing down to miss the cones is a faster overall time. Drive like the cones are steel pipes embedded in the track.
