Post who makes a good semi-flat(or flat) black undercoating that's easy to apply?

I may be taking the car down to MI this winter, and I don't want to go unprepared. I know what the salt on the roads can do and I'd like to undercoat my car before I go.

GM has designed the car to be able to handle road salt and harsh winters. Applying an undercoating will only hamper it's ability to avoid corrosion and will actually make matters worse. If you happen to have the warranty paperwork for your car, it even states that appying an undercoating will void the rust through protection warranty.

The problem lies in that undercoatings create areas that road grime and salt can sit in, and with a little bit of moisture wreaks havoc. Leave the underside uncoated and wash it off occasionally -- you'll be alot better off in the long run.

then why do dealerships offer an undercoating in the east coast? My cousin had it on his 93 v6, and then he got it done to his 98 z28 when he bought it. I bought this car used anyways, so the only extended warranty I wasa ble to get was on the drivetrain and suspension, so it doesn't matter much. I also thought POR 15 was non-porous?

You said undercoating, you didn't mention anything about POR15. POR15 is great, but it's kind of messy and you'll have to spend some time appying it -- not to mention it doesn't like being applied over existing paint. I use POR15 myself -- there's a quart of it sitting in my refridgerator

Just like everything else a dealership does, they offer undercoating because it's a huge profit maker for them and people don't know any better.

Have you ever worked under a car that's been undercoated? Nasty stuff.

I mentioned the warranty only as a reference.

Lasts longer in the fridge -- I believe it says it right on the can. It's not a full quart, there's actually less than half left.
