FormerPony 04-28-2002, 03:12 AM ok guys, Who wants one??? We might be able to get some made through a board sponser. We can only have one hood design made for each car to keep costs down. I am thinking SS hoods for Camaro's and Ws6 hoods for trans am's. What do you guys think?

Whistler 04-28-2002, 06:36 PM FYI-
I've been developing carbon fiber Camaro hoods for a few months now. We made 2 and trashed the mold, and are now finishing up carbon-specific molds for production.
We are producing flat hoods and cowl hoods in carbon. You're not likely to see WS6 and SS hoods due to the complexity of the shape (carbon fiber is usually not painted, thus the layout of the fabric is paramount) and if someone does make one, it will not be cheap.
Carbon flat and cowl hoods will be available this summer in the 6-700$ range depanding on if you want full latch or pins in the front.
Email Chris or Ricky at carbonkreations@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

rollin in a camaro 04-28-2002, 10:17 PM are they going to be for the 93-97 camaros??
jkayner 04-29-2002, 01:59 AM you'll pay 6-700 for a suncoast hood, so if we could get one made of CF for the same price who wouldn't buy one? When you say "flat hoods" what are you meaning? i can see onthe camaro's, but on the TA/firebird, how would this be? I don't think a Ram air hood would be much harder to make, just has a couple snorkels on it.. but i've never done this so i really don't know. I would paint mine also. Maybe if it had CF inserts of something i would leave those...

If you are going to paint I wouldn't think it would be worth it unless it really was only $700-$800. Fiberglass hoods don't weigh that much and there are so many easier and cheaper ways to drop a few pounds off the car (lighter battery, seats, spare tire, bumper supports, washer fluid/bottle, carpet padding, etc..) I don't see how the added strength of carbon fiber is neccesary either.

web page (http://ieng9.ucsd.edu/~ahartoun/turbotransam.htm)
Whistler 04-29-2002, 06:09 PM You're right, A carbon fiber hood will only be a few pounds lighter than a fiberglass one. It will be many times stronger, but it's not a big deal for a hood to be strong. Most people who but them will not paint them because if you're painting it anyway, the cost will probably turn you to a fiberglass hood. Aside from being more labor intensive to make, a carbon fiber hood costs between 15 and 20 times as much to produce in raw material versus fiberglass.
By "flat" hood I meant a stock (non SS) hood.
98-02 hoods will be available first, if the demand is there, 93-97 and Firebird/TA models will follow.
A guy who bought one of the first prototype hoods we made is on this board, goes by 94Z28 I believe. He(Corey) drives a 98 Cayanne red Z28 and yes, left it carbon(unpainted)
2000redSS 04-30-2002, 03:28 AM I personally hate anything ricey, and it's too bad the ricers have taken some great muscle car ideas and made them infamous. Different color hoods are not ricey guys, well if you do them right they aren't. If u drive a Honda and have one with hood pins and run 15s you are a dork. But on our cars, especially if it is real carbon fiber, where's the rice? Muscle cars in the 60's did it and left the hoods flat black from the factory. i believe mostly Mopars did it. I'd love one with hood pins, and I'll be running in the 12's I think that's enough performance to get away with the look.
Ws6cott 04-30-2002, 09:42 AM Well guys...
The Ws6 or SS hoods in CF can be done. We deal in many vented hoods for the imports with similar scoops to the SS.
In order to get the GP going it would mean that i would need at least five people willing to commit and put half down up front.
I tried this once before and got all kinds of people wanting each one made a bit differantly. This of course will not work.
Ill check back later and see if this gets any more interest..

Steve in Seattle 04-30-2002, 10:04 PM Just an FYI, this is bought up every year, and every time it ends one of 2 ways:
1) its a scam
2) not enough people of one hood type can afford it.
Unique Formats:
1) LT1 Camaro
2) LS1 Camaro
3) LT1 Firebird
4) LS1 Firebird
each format spilts any possible buyers automaticlly, and from there people cna rarely even decide on one hood style to GP anyway.
Sadly, I've yet to see a unique or creative hood design in the past 2 years.
The last with any apeal for my LT1 Firebird is the Predator hood (w/heat extractors) from suncoast, or the Ram Air II hood from USBody.com.
Good luck with your GP.

Not trying to be a butt, but how can this person even expect to do a GP if they are not a paying advertiser?
Maybe I missed it, but just thought I would bring it up. It isn't fair to the other paying advertisers....
bluecmaro96 08-03-2002, 09:53 PM it isnt fair that nobody else will do this either so stop crying
Ws6cott 08-04-2002, 01:06 PM I am authorized to do a GP on these boards. I just recently did one for Corbeau Seats...
I can get these hoods if like mentioned above...
We get people to commit. I cant do 1 for a 95 camaro and two for a 98 and 1 for a 96 ta and 3 for a 99 but one with ram air....etc.
Get yourselfs organized and let me know what you are looking for and ill make them. At that time pricing will be available..I can make just one hood but its gonna be rediculously exphensive...

Patch 04-28-2003, 10:31 PM i have a 98 camaro ls1. id like a ws6 style hood, however i would except an ss hood. let me know
Severous01 04-29-2003, 10:11 AM yeah, i would get one if it was like a newer ws6 style. the ss is overrated and very inefficient. plus everyone and their mom has a ss hood for camaro's, and they are even being crossed into the cavilier and honda lineup. i think its time for a new ram air setup for camaro's, and the ws6 looks good enough for me.
as for the gp on this deal, it shouldnt happen unless you are an advertiser, however, if you have a limited quantity and are selling spares, set it up in the for sale section.
id be willing to pay 800 for a cf hood with a ram air II design for a 97 camaro using factory hinges and latches. none of the pin on stuff though
INSANEZ 04-30-2003, 05:24 AM  I will definatley want either a ss or cowl for my lt1 camaro,
if you make them people will buy!!!!
94BlackBowtie 04-30-2003, 12:05 PM ...And that's when Bullwinkle the moose came in and informed the crowd: "Hey guys - this post is from this time last year - I bet the GP never got going on it."

this is already done. do something different. im tired of "SS this" and "SS that". they are overrated. all id have to do to match the power is add a cai and exhause. and thats not worth 4 grand to me. the wheels would be changed any way, so why pay for those. if you want a hood, its only 400 from suncoast. still not 4 grand.

Severous01 04-30-2003, 10:21 PM im talking about the ss upgrade package from the factory. the hood and spoiler, and the ram air with headers...etc
its all overrated and riced out. everyone has a ss spoiler.
its time for something different, and the ram air II is very different

You just like, changed topics quick - but I follow now. And I agree, it owuld be nice to see a new tasteful hood design, but I doubt it's gonna happen.
