The PCM does not interface with the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temp or battery voltage gauges, so no problem substituting non-factory parts.
The VSS signal passes through the PCM, where it is modified to reflect rear end ratio and tire diameter. You could run the VSS signal in parallel to the PCM to keep it happy, and also to a Dakota Digital interface box, to produce whatever signal an aftermarket speedometer/odometer is looking for. The tach comes off the PCM, but an aftermarket tach could be driven off the coil.

where did u get that? thats the one i want :)
rlax31 02-10-2004, 08:42 AM The overlay is off ebay, they're reverse indiglo gauges.
Then I took a Trans Am bezel and put it over the overlays and cut off the corners so that the only thing that is white is dials.
Here (http://www.radford.edu/~rvandenhe/Pictures/97_Z28/images/Gauge%20Progress.jpg) is a picture showing stock, then the overlay, then the finished product
The overlay cost 20 bucks, and the bezel cost about 40 i think from Macewen (http://store.yahoo.com/macewenmotorsports/index.html)
I love the gauges, and always get compliments, feel free to aks any other questions

I have always wanted to do that. Can it be done using the factory PCM or is it something that you need to make work a more old-fashioned way?

Most gauges made no-a-days are digital. So, all you really need to do is find the correct signal wire, power, and ground wire, and you're set.
MEATHEAD 02-11-2004, 08:48 PM I'm using a F.A.S.T for engine management so the stock computer is gone. It's nothing more than the gauge, power wire, and it's sender. The part that sucks is the 5 hours it took to align and fit all the gauges. I just used plastic from the console to build the gauge clusters.
