xcycz28x 02-03-2004, 05:40 PM Well this is a pretty stupid question but I would like to get some feedback....I have a buddy that just got a 1996 Caprice and he thinks he's god all mighty...I have a 1997 Z28 with CAI and Cat back do I have enough to beat him or what do you guys the outcome will be....
thanks
charlie
Steve Y 02-03-2004, 05:56 PM Stock Caprice? You will own him, bigtime! Bet $$!
xcycz28x 02-03-2004, 06:23 PM well he said it was a cop car before he got it, does that mean it has mods on it or something will that change the outcome?
GreenDemon 02-03-2004, 06:42 PM Lol, at best it means it might have come with a 200 hp 4.3L "baby" LT1 engine...
He doesn't stand a chance.
xcycz28x 02-03-2004, 06:44 PM hell yeah then Im going to race that fool for some cash@!!!=

They came with 5.7 LT1 engines
Weak cam, weak heads, heavy, and terrible intake didn't help them any though.
low-mid 15 second car at best
xcycz28x 02-03-2004, 06:50 PM yeah he said he was getting some kind of power adder, but then he was like yeah with this new thing im getting I can change the shift points and raise or lower the rpms....i was thinking of and lt1 edit or something!
GreenDemon 02-03-2004, 06:54 PM yeah oops cop car- could of had a 5.7...
but like spinner said they're not that fast, too heavy.
That's not to say that you couldn't make it fast, but it will take more work than it would for your average lt1 camaro...:D

Those Iron heads flow better than the aluminun LT1 heads...and to my knowledge they have the exact same aluminum intake as the regular Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LT1 etc. They are very heavy though.......;)
xcycz28x 02-03-2004, 06:57 PM kool man thanks for all yours guys help

I was referring to the plumbing, not the manifold itself.
Antz97ZNJ 02-03-2004, 11:13 PM you'll crush em
MauriSSio 02-04-2004, 04:38 AM you should be able to beat him pretty soundly given you have a 600-700lbs weight advantage. But since the Impy/Caprice heads DO flow better they should respond better to mods. But the cam IS smaller too though something like 192 duration with .42X lift. Also, the cop (9c1) Caprice wasnt the only Caprice available with the LT1,actually im not sure on the number exactly but about half the ones i see have LT1's in em.
MauriSSio 02-04-2004, 04:41 AM oh yeah they should be good for high 14's@91-93mph
2ZPOINT 02-04-2004, 08:22 AM The iron heads flow better but the 5.7s in the caprices have lower compression. They are rated at 260 horses. He would have to do more than mess with the computer to even keep up with you.

Easy kill.
xcycz28x 02-04-2004, 11:06 AM All right guys thanks for all your info....The race is one for Valentines Day, we are betting 200 bucks, I'll post the out come later that day...I hope my friend can video tape it that would be great, but then again thanks!!!

He is willing to bet $200?! He is either really stupid or has a trick up his sleeve (maybe nitrous). I would look over his car really good before the race and tell him if he isn't stock or close to it you are not paying up if you lose.
xcycz28x 02-04-2004, 02:24 PM I saw his car and there isnt anything in it.....he is one of those big macho types that doesnt know ****....we he first got there he was like I have an LT1 what do you have in your car??? I was like, let race and find out all I have is CAI and Cat back...hes not to bright!!! LOL

If that is the case, then take all the money you can from him and embarass his dumb a**! Tell us how it goes.
MauriSSio 02-04-2004, 05:56 PM yeah i wouldnt call it "low compression" the B-Body LT1 has about 10.1 stock so it aint that bad. The aluminum headed LT1 has higher compression because it basically needs it due to the aluminum heads shedding power building heat qwiker. Either way i wouldnt take him TOO lightly, its gonna be as close as an LT1 F-Body vs LS1 so it aint an automatic kill.
Steve Y 02-04-2004, 11:31 PM Stock for stock your Camaro should have him by about 1.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Add your mods and you should have him by about 1.4 seconds or 14 carlength in the 1/4 with both people driving the cars well. The LS1 and LT1 differ by about .5 seconds in the 1/4 mile stock for stock.
MauriSSio 02-05-2004, 04:36 AM no-better yet LS1vsLT1= about 5-7MPH difference.
B-Body vs. F-Body= about 6-8 MPH difference. Each MPH is ROUGHLY 1 tenth. 1 tenth is ROUGHLY 1 carlength
John1975 02-05-2004, 03:34 PM A '00 Porsche 911 only weighs 600lbs more
You will win, but he will be faster than most people think.
mebanditws6 02-05-2004, 05:08 PM Haha, is this guy serious? Did you check for any sort of well placed NOS bottle or anything like that? I can't believe this guy is serious about racing. If it's stock as you say, then put your $200 towards a set of nice Dynatech or Hooker LT's. :D

4 Door LT1 02-05-2004, 11:12 PM Oh this is why I love having a caprice. all you f-body and mustang guys always underestimate me and it's oh so rewarding to see the look on your faces when you get beat by me. i've seen caprices run 14.3-16.4 stock with the LT1. getting one is like playing the lottery. mine ran a 14.6 w/ 2.0 60ft with a tuneup and exhaust cutouts. I ran my buddies '94 Z28 on the street and put a car on him by the time i hit 100, then he started to walk around me. on the highway from a 40 punch, it'd be the same way. so, unless you're doing this at the track and you've got your r/t and 60fts down, i wouldn't count all your chickens until your eggs are hatched. but, if you do it on the street, just remember the line "anything can happen on the street". that's my .02 cents.

4 Door LT1 02-05-2004, 11:42 PM well, 'ive beaten numerous cars that are "faster" than me, in street races. also, as i stated before i ran a 14.6, that was in St. Louis with very bad DA. i'm sure if i went down south in the winter, i could pull a 14.3 or better.

If you can only pull a 14.6 with a very good 60' with cutouts and a tune...you must also have had a very good DA for that race... i can see why most people pull high 15 second passes with LT1 Caprices. There is no way in hell you should get a carlength on a properly functioning LT1 F Body in a race up to 100. Give some specifics on the 94 Z28 you raced. We are talking about a curb weight of 4,100-4,300 lbs for the 9C1.
Here are some stats:
Model: 1996 Caprice Sedan
Engine: 5.7 liter 350 cid, LT1 V-8
Horse Power: 260
0 to 100 mph: 21.47 Seconds
Top Speed: 139 MPH
These are from Chevrolet Police Cars (1955- 1996)

Scan your timeslips, and show them to us ;) At our local track, stock LT1 Camaros/Firebirds run consistenly 1.2-2 seconds faster than Impala SS/Caprice 9C1's. Whats even better, there is one that has full lenghth headers/intake/exhaust/gears/2800 stall/DR's and runs about a 13.8@ 100. Stock he ran 15.1 average.....

My point is that things like that happen at the track as well. There are people that break their cars on the run, launch crappy, shift crappy, and there are poorly tuned cars at the track and on the street. You beat the driver not the car if you are beating "faster" cars.

MauriSSio 02-06-2004, 08:41 PM Lets not get into another argument about "top end pull." Like i said before an LT1 F-Body Vs. LT1 B-Body is gonna be very similar to LS1 FBody vs. LT1 F-Body. Its obvious one has the power advantage and should win,but thats not always the case due to drivers.
jthomas- his car pulls 18mph or so after the 1/8 yours pulls 23mph not very close if you ask me. He covered the second half in 2.2 secs. while you did it in 2.0 so maybe you're shifting a bit slow.

Yes state troopers at least in Indiana are harder on their cars from more ground to cover via interstates and state roads. In my area, they also tend to drive faster, take off faster, etc on or off duty when just motoring around patrolling or running errands than city cops and sheriffs. However, if you buy an ex cop car used by a small town agency or from a sheriff in a rural county, such as here, chances are, it will still be in fairly good condition. I hear most agencies actually take decent care maintenance wise of their cars. The use is more severe.
Jason
ABA383 02-07-2004, 01:45 PM I definitely agree with that...I didn't mean to steer this thread in this direction, but just because an agency is hard on cars it doesn't make us stupid....I took pride in my LT1 Caprice when I had it, but you can only do so much in a big agency with 3 people driving the car each day....You're right....if you're lucky enough to get one from a small agency, you'll be golden because most had "take home" cars...meaning that they were the ONLY people that drove them and took care of them and were solely responsible if something bad happened to it...I've seen plenty of great conditioned ex-police cars from other agencies....but by the time we get rid of them, they are in sad shape....Gotta love big government:D

While cops may seem to be pains in the average person’s neck, they are here for the common good. They follow you to make sure you obey the LAW. I speed, I do it regularly, if I get pulled over, it sucks, because the police officer is doing his or her job. Police make the world safer. Sometimes I use to think, "Wow traffic police are useless and should go bust some big time criminals". That thought is also common among a lot of people ignorant of the criminal justice system in this country. Many wanted felons are caught by traffic police. Why? Because the same d!ckhead that broke the law raping your daughter, is more than likely to break the law on the road. How would you feel like everybody road your ass non stop all the time, or cut you off at the drop of a feather? Or drove 3 times the posted speed-limit and ran over a loved one or a friend? For sh!t sake get off of law enforcement officers nuts... You have no clue how much stress and danger they put themselves thru every time they put on that badge and uniform. Police have statistically the worst unhappy marriage and divorce rate and the worst life expectancy after retiring. Law enforcement officers are also one of the worst paid professions in the country. Most officers appear to be "dicks" because they are subjected to the worst of man-kind....day in...day out. Those men and woman who protect and serve do it for more reasons than the pay.
For your information I am going to the University Of Maryland at College Park to further my education, and to get a degree in criminal justice, to get paid jack squat, and protect little pansies like yourself after you get your a$$ beat from running your mouth like you did above. I have always wanted to make a difference...that's why I chose the career path I have...and that's why I resent your ignorance.

I hate cops for what they represent. They represent the people who will f*ck you up the ass for doing everyday things.
However cops are people, just like you and me. There are a few decent cops (in about 10 interactions, met 1 who was "cool") but most of them are straight dicks. Now, if I was a cop and had to deal with people all the time too, I would probably be a dick also.

ABA383 02-07-2004, 10:14 PM Sorry about all this junk...like any other job there are people who do it who shouldn't...it's those cops that give us all a bad rap...Growing up I hated the police, got tons of tickets..even had a custom fake license plate that read "IH8COPS" that I put on the front of my car!!...that went over real well....Its all about perceptions....No doubt that a few of you hate us and are probably in that same "place" that I was a while ago...Hopefully you'll change your thinking, but some won't ....that's fine..I guess you don't have to like us, but you can at least respect the fact that we do a job that someone has to do...
And I still think that a stock Z will beat a stock Caprice...Isn't that what we were talking about?...It took me a ton of mods to get my old man's 95 Impala SS to run 14.20s...

filbielansk 02-08-2004, 11:26 AM I have to agree with everyone who says that cops in general are pretty much worthless. Unless you live in a high crime area cops are good for nothing but sucking down donuts and drinking coffee. I'm basing my opinion on personal experiences.

I have to agree with everyone who says that cops in general are pretty much worthless. Unless you live in a high crime area cops are good for nothing but sucking down donuts and drinking coffee. I'm basing my opinion on personal experiences.
What is this ignorant retard month?
filbielansk 02-08-2004, 11:36 AM It's true

Yeah, you're on to me . Why don't you go tell your little cop speech to your local police and see how far that gets you. :p
filbielansk 02-08-2004, 01:02 PM Steve y go find a family with a handicapped child and call them a retard and see how far it gets you. Ignorant moran. Your remarks are very douchbag like. This is not a ford vs chevy argument. You are using peoples misfortunes for your amusement. You are a lowlife.

filbielansk 02-08-2004, 07:32 PM ABA383 yes the my deal with the board member as you mentioned is one of the reason why I feel the way I feel. I took the issue to the local police department after not hearing from the guy for a month and they told me tuff it's a civil matter. But I have gotten numerous parking tickets not even knowing why. So I took them into the pd and they informed me tht there is a sign when you enter the city not to park in the street after 2:00am. So after hours of searching I finally found the sign eventhough it was not even close to where I was parked but miles away. Their response tough you live in the city you should know ALL it's laws. Then there was the constant harrasment of soldiers when I was in the service. Cops having road blocks at least once a week right before you reach the main gate. The only one open after late hours. Backing up traffic for half a mile while they harrass everyone before going through the main gate on post. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them.
ABA383 02-08-2004, 08:25 PM Well, if I had your experiences I'd probably feel the same way....but not all of us are jerks...any cop worth his stones couldve easily charged that goof with theft, or at least threatened him with that...was it a civil matter? yes, but was it a theft? YES...but I'm not a lazy hump, and I would've handled it differently...If it makes you feel any better, I live in a small town and was charged with failing to remove my snow from my sidewalk within 24 hours..I was on a damn cruise ship 1000s of miles away...how was I to know it had snowed?...I was found guilty because the judge said I should know the laws, and in PA it snows in Winter so I should be prepared!!! hahaha....it sucked, but do I hate all police? No...Every agency is different with different problems and agendas...I'm just trying to show you that we aint all bad...I'm sure all this crap wont change your mind, but it might make you think a little about over generalizing.....My offer to vacation in "beautiful" Baltimore still stands...we are a little too busy for parking tickets...

jthomas 02-08-2004, 09:28 PM might as well wade in here...
my dealings with the police has been both good and bad. while i think poaching is weak-style (when was the last time you saw radar set up in a school zone), i do appreciate the fact that when the real bad guys show up, they are there to do the job.
i would also like to add that every person that i went to highschool with, with the exception of one, that went into law enforcement was a 1st rate, power-hungry arsehole. it seems to me that this kind of position draws these types to it and will invariably bring out the worst in them. i can only hope that training, peer preasure from the better cops out there, and ongoing life experiences will change them for the better as people because, lord knows, i wouldn't have pissed on any of 'em if they were on fire back in highschool.
Oracle17 02-08-2004, 10:27 PM ABA from your posts I think you could probably be one of the cool cops
Never been in a thread about the police when a cop would actually admit that some of his peers were less then saints
Kris93/95Z28 02-08-2004, 10:45 PM I think some of these people are over generalizing.
Many may have had bad experiences with local law enforcement.
But What were you doing when you were pulled over?
Did you treat the officer with respect?
There are many factors that would make a usually rational person pissy with you.
As far as traffic cops go... THINK about ALL the stupid crap you've done while driving, and not got a ticket... I average a ticket about every 1 1/2 ~ 2 years. When I get One, I pay it and move on... I guess I look at it like I deserve it for what I was doing at that moment or a ton of other crap I never got pulled over for.
Now do I believe that there are bad apples? Heck yeah. Just the same way I believe that religion is a good thing even though some preachers, religious figures, etc.. choose to do the wrong things.
DrunkenMantis 02-08-2004, 11:16 PM The next time you say all cops are *******s you go ahead and tell that to the cop that let me drive my car home even after he pulled me over for having a tag from a different car on the car I was driving, and not to mention no insurance. A "crime" punishable by 2 months in jail and a $500 fine. I too am majoring in criminal justice and am going into the academy and eventually the DEA. I also resent the fact that people think that all cops are dicks. I have had my run ins with bad ones but hey you get that anywhere you go. One of the main reasons cops pull you over for "stupid things" is to check warrants. Many murders, rapists, drug lords have been pulled over for traffic violations and then apprehended.(John Gotti or Al Capone was I think.) ALSO someone above stated that he's been harassed by cops more than killers, drug lords, etc.
What did you do to cause an interaction with the cop? How was your attitude towards him? And a big reason why you probably havent been harrased by a killer or drug lord is probably b/c the police arrested them or watching them. There's plenty of killers in small towns. Im in the relativley small town and we have already had about 8 murders since the start of 2004. Just b/c you have a bad teacher in school most certainly doesnt mean they are all bad and I think most can agree with me on that. Just don't be so set in your ways. There are good "pigs" out there. Sorry so long guys.

This is the reason that most of us stay the hell out of the kills section. Come over the the lounge (a bit better, at least it is moderated) for a somewhat more mature discussion. I ignore the cop haters. I was certified in North Carolina but went into corrections for a few years instead after my CJ degree. Welcome aboard.

I know. I wonder where some of these people on this board come from? :yuck:
STANGeatinZ 02-10-2004, 12:58 AM ok here's my opinion whether it's worth anything to ya'll or not. I'm 19 and have had around 12 tickets since i've been driving, and i've prob deserved everyone of them. Yes speed traps suck but speeding is against the law punishable by fines. it sucks but if you're bad a$$ enough to speed you should be bad enough to pay the fine for it.
furthermore if you read the posts by the law enforcement members of this site and then the posts by the jacka$$'s argueing with them you will figure out who the real men are.
ps.
not to mention any names but there are some real idiots on this board (filbielansk+MauriSSio= low life idiots)
pss. filbielansk so you are saying you've never generalized the word retard, you are a real class act(jacka$$)
if you two idiots were half the men that most cops are,you might be decient citizens
mebanditws6 02-10-2004, 01:28 AM I'm not a cop but know several. For anyone to say that almost all cops are dicks is such a shallow and ignorant observation. When cops pull you over for a traffic violation, they are supposed to act somewhat on the curt side but in a professional manner in an effort to try to get people to not break the law again, sort of like an intimidation thing. Sure there are a few cops who are power hungry and could care less how they act toward citizens, but most are (believe it or not) decent people who have to put up with alot of crap on the job, AND the ones I know loathe the ticket writing that comes with some of the frivulous speeding tickets issued because of dimbulb speed limits. So maybe the officer who stops you might be a little curt probably because he's had to write 10 tickets prior to you. However, if one of the ones who give cops a bad name (based on accurate observation and experiences) would stop me for going 15 over on a deserted highway in good conditions and tries to give me a bunch of crap that's not needed, then yes, I will say a couple smart comments back. If they're gonna be like that and overreact to small stuff like that, then they shouldn't have the badge.
But please understand that most of the cops out there serving are good, decent people. Shoot, a good portion of them (one I know has a 69 Nova with a buit 454, 4spd)around my area are car nuts like me and the rest of us on this board. :)
Jason
filbielansk 02-10-2004, 08:08 AM You were right your opinion does not count. The idiot here is you you admitted to having 12 tickets in three years. Yeah you're a real man who constantly breaks the law. Whats the matter didn't finish highschool and can't read traffic signs. I have 4 tickets in my whole 13 years of driving. And half of those are parking tickets. And no I never generalized the word retard. I use to volunteer for these people and I know what a struggle it is for them and their families. You have no clue about anything so zip up your pie hole.

STANGeatinZ 02-10-2004, 03:49 PM I was hoping i would get a response like that out of filbielansk. just helps prove everyone's point of how much of an idiot you are, and if it matters i graduated highschool in the top few of my class of 500, and i'm now majoring in veterinary medicine. So obviously i can read. what kind of math skills do you have 19-15 is four(how many years i've been driving). what do you do for a living if you're so smart. It sounds like you have some other issues you need to deal with, maybe your car's slow or maybe you just suck as a person. The same cop that you dog everyday maybe the one that saves your dumb life one day.
oh yeah, you say you've been driving for 13 years, so you are about 30. why are you acting like an immature child?
Oracle17 02-10-2004, 04:56 PM 1) 2 years ago -Driving home in my car with my friend in his brand new rsx next to me. We are on a two lane road at 3 am, slowing down for a red light. We speed up as it turns green before we come to a complete stop, but cruising along a good 20 mph below the 45mph speed limit. We kind of look over at each other, nod, and hit it. I remember being in second as I switched over to third he pulls away steadly. I'm staring at my tach, wishing it would hit 7k so I could go into 4th when I see flashing blue lights. I pull over slowly, hoping to give my friend enough time to escape the cops attention as he is a good few bus lengths (or so it seemed) in front of me. The cop ignores me, pulls my buddy over, jumps in the street with a flash light to get me.
It seems he was chilling at the intersection and decided to follow us. He turned on his lights after we jumped it and gave us both reckless driving tickets for going 90mph. I however was no where near that, probably aroudn 75. My friend might have been going 90 as he was so far in front of me but I don't know how he could have gone so much faster then me.
Opinion - Cop was a cool guy even though 90mph sucks because in VA it can mean jail time. Did I deserve a ticket? Yes... reckless sucks but thats life. Cop did a breathalyzer on me, blew a .05 (18 years of age) and let my friend drive me home. He also stuck up for me in court, giving his opinion to the judge that the plea bargain offered by my lawyer was good by him. His partner talked to us about cars, how he had a lt1 280z and wanted a wrx. This was a good cop
2) Next door neighbors have a huge party (high school kids) Cops come over, there is some drama and as I'm smoking outside on my driveway I notice the cops are ticketing all the cars on the street. Probably about 6 cops there, I point at my car and tell them I live at the house next door. The cop advises to move my car closer to the sidewalk as the right tires aren't close enough to the curb. I do this, then immediateley get a breathalyzer test. Blew a .01 and got bitched at by the cops. Next day I wake up to see a ticket on my car for "parking within 10 ft of a public driveway". WTF
Opinion- This cop was a bitch cause he didn't get his **** for the night
Just 2 instances out of the many experiences I've had with cops. Cops are people just like you and me, and in my opinion, most of them are dicks. However some of them are just doing their job and don't look to stick it to you while many of them do. However once again, the job itself can make you mean and vindictive. So .... ah I dont know man
CamaroGuy22 02-10-2004, 08:14 PM That second scenario made me cringe, i could imagine that happening to me...i would be pissed. It just goes to show you there are bad apples out there.

mtxpert 02-11-2004, 01:18 AM OK, back to the topic at hand, LT1 B-body vs LT1 Fbody.
In my B-body club we have several stock or CAI/exhaust cars only 9C1's that run mid 14's. I also have friends in the local Fbody club (which I'm also in) that run mid to high 14's in their LT1 Fbodies.
This is in Phoenix which is considered a high elevation track.
With my car with stock motor & bolt on's I've beaten most LT1 Fbodies I've ran. If I wasn't winning initially the 175 shot usually took care of the rest. With my bolt on car with nitrous I was running 12.35@110 without nitrous 13.9@101.
Of course with the 396 I run 12.9's on motor, still working out the bugs for a full 250 shot pass...

Stock B-body vs. stock F-body and the F-body guys are losing or tying? Boy those F-body guys need to learn how to drive.

What is the elevation there?
mtxpert 02-11-2004, 03:24 PM 1220 Altitude but the DA averages around 3500 to 4500 ft here due to weather conditions.
Comparing my 1/4 mile times NA here to guys in NJ and FL just doesn't work due to their usual 200 to -800 DA.
:(
I could probably get a list of 10 guys to come on here from AZFBA with their LT1 Fbodies that ran mid 14's stock.

STANGeatinZ 02-11-2004, 04:41 PM I'm glad we got back to the subject. I've never driven one so i don't really no how fast they are, but those things are whales. Not to rag on caprices but I would be pretty imbaressed if i was beat by one.

I completely understand! I race at 4000 feet elevation. I've seen the d. a. as high as 7000+ feet here before. That really hurts times and trap speeds.

mtxpert 02-11-2004, 10:38 PM OK, so far NO ONE in AZ has seen an LT1 Fbody go 13's stock or intake/exhaust...
:)
I have personally seen a STOCK 9C1 Caprice go 14.7@97 so we can pull win out on an Fbody occassionally.
Especially sine we can get traction out of the hole, most Caprice's will get a mid 1.9 60' stock here in Phoenix. Most Fbodies I know of run 2.1's or higher.
:)

Why does the Caprice hook so hard? We are talking bone stock cars, right?
mtxpert 02-11-2004, 11:19 PM Tall tires - 28" tall stock and 3.08 or 2.73 gears + TQ = low 60'.
:)
As long as they have posi they can hook pretty well.
