295/40/17

Hey guys i have somewhat of a delema here.

A long time ago I set my car up for 315/35/17's i have never been able to get them to not rub. The car is lowered about an 1"1/2.
I have rolled the lip and banged the inner fender. I got the rims centered so well that the tires rub on both the inner and outer sides. So now i have 285's on the rear which was the only thing i could find that was smaller than a 315.
The tires are too small for the rims (11" wide) and they just don't seem to work anywhere near as well.

I was wondering if anybody knows of a 305 or a 295 tire in a 17" rim , or a company that i could special order from.

Trying doing a search for that size tire on www.tirerack.com I have to imagine that someone makes a tire that size. I'm surprised after rolling the lip and beating the fender that they still rub.

would 295s work without rubbing even if you didnt do anything to the fender/wheelwell? ive been trying to figure out whats the biggest tire i can run front and rear without any rubbing and not modifying the car to prevent rubbing. not sure if im going to run 17 or 18 inch rim yet though

in my experience 275 is the biggest you can go all around without having to alter anything. Your limitation on that is gona be the front. You shouldn't have to go bigger than 275 in the front anyways. As far as the rear goes i believe the trans am can support a slightly larger tires in the rear due to the fenders being flared a little more. Good Luck

Thanks for the idea that looks like a sweet tire but i need something i can drive on every day. i usually go through a set of rears every year, so i'm used to bad tread wear, i'd be surprised if those lasted 2 months.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

yeah fronts i know i couldnt run as big as soon as i have to steer too far to one side it would rub even if they were ok driving straight with the wheels at neutral. i didnt want to run bigger in the back cuz then i cant rotate. well i was figuring somewhere between 275, 285, or 295, now i just gotta pick a brand ;)
