rskrause and others - crank choice questions?

I'm in the process of collecting parts for a fairly mild 355 blower motor (8 -12 lbs max).
I already have Wiseco PT007H3 pistons and 6" Eagle H-beam rods.
Can I get away with using a cast crank for this aplication, or do I need to go forged?

Thanks for any input

If you are looking for a forged crank on a budget I would highly recommend looking into a GM forged crank (around $500.00). If not I think you will be good with a Scat crank.

there also steel as a cheap way around it. Go forged if you can afford it.

I think you could get away with a stock crank. A cheap upgrade is the Scat "cast steel" crank.

how tough is the gm forged crank?

It's made of 1053 steel, not as tough as 4340. It is a nice crank.

What about the eagle 4340 forged? with forged 4340 rods?

I'm selling a GM 1053, 1 pc. rear seal crank. It has been offset ground to 3.50" stroke. This offset grind moves the piston up .010" in the bore, so you don't have to deck the block as much to achieve 'zero deck height'.

This is the crank:

Make offer.

engineermike,
How much was removed from the journals on this crank?

Also, the description in the link you provided says it requires a counter weighted flywheel, will this work for an LT1?

Thanks

Didn't know eagle was so down on the list!!!

Im sure its not bad though...

I have one on my engine and pumping 607 to the wheels.. so lets see how well it holds.. its rated till 750 to the flywheel..

highlander , you have eagle 4340 crank and rods? if you made that much power and didnt have a prolem that would make me feel much better cause i have the same. stroker crank, 5.7'' rods and srp pistons.

I didn't mean to imply Eagle was "bad", just indicate my order of preference. Interestingly, it is also the price in descending order!

I have eagle H... keep in mind that LJ did 600s with stock crank and rods!!! they did break though.. but he was hammering them...

My setup "shouldn't" break with good tunning... I has run HARD its miles... 5k miles or such...

No problems at all when I removed the pan for a gasket change!

You should be alright... I agree that if you want to pump A LOT more, get lunati pro mods...

The eagle H-beam should hold...

I did a search and the callies is a lot more expensive though...

In order to get .020" extra stroke, the center of the journal must move .010", which means that the ID side of the journal must lose .020", providing the OD side of the journal loses nothing.

Summary: the journals are .020" under.

An LT1 has a counter-weighted flywheel.

Mike,

Thanks for replying, How much would you take for it?

My general rule is 50% new price.

New is $515, so I'll ask for $255.

Fair enough?

I've been using the same eagle crank and rods for a few years now.

So far so good.

I made 928 fwhp using a GM forged crank. I am always thinking about it when I run the car... It has impressed me so far!
