BBoyce 01-23-2004, 01:38 PM I'm in the process of collecting parts for a fairly mild 355 blower motor (8 -12 lbs max).
I already have Wiseco PT007H3 pistons and 6" Eagle H-beam rods.
Can I get away with using a cast crank for this aplication, or do I need to go forged?
Thanks for any input
Ben
IDOXLR8 01-23-2004, 01:51 PM If you are looking for a forged crank on a budget I would highly recommend looking into a GM forged crank (around $500.00). If not I think you will be good with a Scat crank.
94SLUG 01-23-2004, 02:12 PM there also steel as a cheap way around it. Go forged if you can afford it.
rskrause 01-23-2004, 03:58 PM I think you could get away with a stock crank. A cheap upgrade is the Scat "cast steel" crank.

marshall93z 01-23-2004, 06:39 PM how tough is the gm forged crank?

It's made of 1053 steel, not as tough as 4340. It is a nice crank.

BBoyce 01-24-2004, 03:11 AM Thanks to all for your replies, there will be more questions to come lol.

Highlander 01-24-2004, 11:14 PM What about the eagle 4340 forged? with forged 4340 rods?
engineermike 01-25-2004, 01:12 AM I'm selling a GM 1053, 1 pc. rear seal crank. It has been offset ground to 3.50" stroke. This offset grind moves the piston up .010" in the bore, so you don't have to deck the block as much to achieve 'zero deck height'.
This is the crank:

Make offer.

BBoyce 01-25-2004, 04:11 PM engineermike,
How much was removed from the journals on this crank?
Also, the description in the link you provided says it requires a counter weighted flywheel, will this work for an LT1?
Thanks
Ben
mehoffz24 01-25-2004, 06:53 PM highlander, im curious also, what do you guys think of eagle instead of scat or callies???

Callies>>Scat>Eagle

Highlander 01-25-2004, 07:09 PM Didn't know eagle was so down on the list!!!
Im sure its not bad though...
I have one on my engine and pumping 607 to the wheels.. so lets see how well it holds.. its rated till 750 to the flywheel..
mehoffz24 01-25-2004, 07:15 PM highlander , you have eagle 4340 crank and rods? if you made that much power and didnt have a prolem that would make me feel much better cause i have the same. stroker crank, 5.7'' rods and srp pistons.
rskrause 01-25-2004, 07:18 PM I didn't mean to imply Eagle was "bad", just indicate my order of preference. Interestingly, it is also the price in descending order!

Highlander 01-25-2004, 07:20 PM I have eagle H... keep in mind that LJ did 600s with stock crank and rods!!! they did break though.. but he was hammering them...
My setup "shouldn't" break with good tunning... I has run HARD its miles... 5k miles or such...
No problems at all when I removed the pan for a gasket change!
You should be alright... I agree that if you want to pump A LOT more, get lunati pro mods...
The eagle H-beam should hold...
I did a search and the callies is a lot more expensive though...

In order to get .020" extra stroke, the center of the journal must move .010", which means that the ID side of the journal must lose .020", providing the OD side of the journal loses nothing.
Summary: the journals are .020" under.
An LT1 has a counter-weighted flywheel.

BBoyce 01-25-2004, 09:29 PM Mike,
Thanks for replying, How much would you take for it?
Ben
engineermike 01-25-2004, 09:51 PM My general rule is 50% new price.
New is $515, so I'll ask for $255.
Fair enough?
Mike
Highlander 01-25-2004, 10:00 PM mike let me know about the plate.. THanks
INTMD8 01-25-2004, 10:27 PM I've been using the same eagle crank and rods for a few years now.
So far so good.
Highlander 01-25-2004, 10:33 PM Hey intimd8
Do you have some sort of code on your sig that makes your RWHP go up every day??? you are at 744 already!! DAMN!!!!

LOL, no, I just spend alot of time trying different parts and tuning on the dyno. Last run was #144 :)
BBoyce 01-26-2004, 01:22 AM Mike,
I'll have to check the budget, I'm still trying to recover from Christmas.LOL

I made 928 fwhp using a GM forged crank. I am always thinking about it when I run the car... It has impressed me so far!
