Are there any GTO against other car tests yet

Have any Mags. done a test with the GTO verse a Mustang?

My inlaws are huge Ford fans and just keep knocking this car down, saying in all of the tests so far the car wont break out of the 14's. Are there any hard factual 1/4 mile and skid pad tests out there yet? I know this car is not a Cobra killer but I hope it will at least smoke a 05 GT.

Motor Trend already tested the car and ran something like a 13.6 @ 104. Anyways, I would expect to see an article comparing the GTO to the G35, BMW 330 and cars of that nature before the Mustang.

As long as the new Mustang is put together well, its 6k lower price would probably give it the edge to win a comparison test vs. the GTO.

My inlaws are,..... ....saying in all of the tests so far the car wont break out of the 14's.

Your in-laws may need to take it easy on the crack, either that or stop depending on "Import Tuner" magazine as an objective source of information.

GTO Road Tests:

Magazine...........Issue...........0 - 60 ........................1/4 mi ................. Lat. G's
Car and Driver ..12/03 ...........5.3 seconds ...........14.0 @ 102 mph .......0.88
Road & Track ...12/03 ............5.3 ........................13.8 @ 103.8 mph .....0.81
Motor Trend .....12/03 ...........5.3 ........................13.62 @ 104.8 mph ....0.80

The only area I see where the GTO needs immediate improvement is the standard rubber. The BFG KDWS M+S's just don't cut it on a vehicle of this calibre. Oh, and that gawdawful exhaust HAS GOT TO GO!. Who cares if it sounds just like a 1965 GTO when you're losing 20+ hp between the cats and the tips.

uhhh, what? True dual 2.5" exhaust isn't exactly restrictive.

Texas Speed & Performance did a catback exhaust on one and gained a whopping 5rwhp.

High Performance Pontiac ran the GTO against a Mach 1 with the GTO winning all 3 races by .1-.2.

And you dont see why the GTO won ALL 3 races??????????
It is a Pontiac magazine for Gods sake!

I like how the top 3 mag's got the exact SAME 0-60 time.I mean not even one 5.2-5.4!!What a joke.

What was HPP's times for the GTO???I know they cant drive a MACH1.Its times are the only ones I recall.14.1 right?
14.1 e.t.'s are WAY off for a MACH1.Sorry to say HPP drivers cant drive for POOP!

Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords ran a 13.13 in a Mach 1 on stock tires. Theyre the same guys who published LS1 cars breaking into the 12s.

I really dont think a GTO can do that.

Just for reference to how well these guys test cars, heres an 03 Cobra vs. 02 Camaro SS article.

Uhh, it is when one of those pipes has 400°+ of bends between the first muffler (resonator) and the tip.

It is my understanding that Pontiac's engineers spent over 100 hours to have this GTO sound just like it's 1965 forebear. In the process, they obliviated the free-flowing exhaust the Holden folks designed for the Monaro. Crossover pipe,.... don't need it. Straight pipes with minimal bends,... too simple. Twin tips at each corner,...nahhh looks too mean.

Texas Speed & Performance did a catback exhaust on one and gained a whopping 5rwhp

What did they do, replace the factory pipes with drinking straws? Seriously, you could replace the unnecessary bends in the last 24" with straight pipe and probably uncork over 5 rwhp.

Ahh well. At least Pontiac has guaranteed there'll be a thriving aftermarket for GTO catbacks.

Much like you shouldn't sacrifice more attractive styling for sheer aerodynamic properties (IMO), I don't have a problem with Pontiac engineers sacrificing a few ponies for a real muscle car sound. The LS1 is never short on power anyway and now it's the best sounding GM machine since at least the LT1 F-body.

As someone who spent wayyy too much effort and money to get my IROC sounding just right, I guess I'd have less cause than most when it comes to criticizing the GTO's exhaust. But when a whole lot of effort is spent to make it sound like a 1965 Goat, I have to ask: how many GTO buyers will have any idea what a 40 year old Pontiac sounded like? And how many would demand it have 'that' sound even at the cost of considerable lost hp? Surely they could have given the GTO a suitably aggressive exhaust note, without making the pipes look like the losing entry in a knot-tying contest.

Sorry, but mandrel bends are still not too restrictive. And from the pic, it definitely does NOT look like alot of bends IMO. TSP added an X-pipe and different mufflers.

I've had a copy of the picture you linked to, since September, and I'm left wondering which picture you are looking at.

Hmmm...That quote reminds me of this!

Just kidding! We'll find out how restrictive it really is when the aftermarket people start getting their hands on it.
