T-56 swap...neutral safety switch works backwards
T-56 swap...neutral safety switch works backwards
Did the swap about a year ago actually. Since I'm just now getting to a point where my life is getting manageable, and the fact I'm in Korea right now, I just now remembered about this.
One of the irritating things about my car. I obtained a complete T-56 swap awhile ago. To make a long story short, I got what was supposed to be a '95 T-56 (was a '93) along with all of the necessary swap parts. After doing the swap, I noticed that the car will crank with the clutch out, not in. I used the same switch that was on the '93 pedals to begin with, but still, doesn't work. Doubtful, I tried switching the wires...nothing. Were '93's wired to use a different switch? Anyone have a part number?
Didn't bother wiring in the wires for the CAGS. Have it deactivated in the PCM anyway. Will this affect anything?

Sounds really strange to me. The switch completes a circuit when depressed. When not depressed the circuit is incomplete, under normal circumstances. There just isn't any way that I can think of that will see that switch work in a manner opposite to what it is supposed to. To my mind, your problem has to be somewhere else.
Sorry, I realize that doesn't help much but . . .

That's what I dont understand. I thought that maybe the '93 were wired different or used a different switch from some reason, since '93 seems to be the odd year for LT1 f-bodies. I'm pretty much sure I used the right wires, and the thing got annoying when I'd have to start in neutral with the clutch out, or when you try to crank and it's in gear and it jumps. Anybody have wiring schematics for it?
Are you sure you don't have the switch on the wrong side of the pedal? It is the same idea as a brake light switch. It's hard to explain here, but if you have the switch below the pedal arm it will close ( or open ) it with the pedal depressed. If you flip the switch over to the other side it will work opposite. I have seen guys do this with brake light switches before is why I thought of it.
To add to the previous post:
The switch is stationary. It mounts on a bracket near the floor board. It is struck by an arm off the pedal. When the switch is struck, the circuit is complete. If it were mounted somewhere other than near the floor, ---say at the top of the pedal--- I could understand how it would act oppostie to what it is supposed to.

I didn't know how they were mounted. If it was my car I would probably just cut the feed wire to the switch. For some reason it must be live at the wrong time; and run a wire from switched 12V (only live when key is run or start) to the live side of the switch.
EDIT: I did a little reading and in my Haynes manual they describe the switch as being mounted on a bracket at the top of the clutch pedal. If that is the case there are probably a couple of different switches depending on the year of the car. The easiest way to find out would probably be to check with the dealer's parts department.
