ram air vs. cold air intake

Ok guys, I'm kinda torn here. I've decided I want to redo the air intake on my camaro, but I cant really decide which way to go. The ram air, to my mind, just seems cooler than the cold air intake, but I can just go out any BUY a cold air intake for relatively little money and just bolt it on without any worries. The ram air setup for our cars just doesnt seem as developed. Does any one particularly out perform the other? What do you guys think?

if you have the air filter setup that has the two square drop in filters, you already have cold air. drop in some k&ns
just remove the water baffles and drill some holes in the airbox under the filters and youre set

Ok well, is doing that any better than converting to ram air?

if by ram air you mean buying the ram air hood, and the ram air airbox then having the hood painted to match.. youre looking at big dollars.

or the cheap ram air is pcv piping the airfilter low enough to catch air under the car your going to get a muddy, waterlogged, dirty filter fast.

k&n drop in filters are easy and will save you $ anyway

porting your intake yourself would help even more and still cost you nothing. there are many places that show detailed instructions

Yea, well, lets just say that I'm not very good at building/cutting/modifying things myself.. I can design stuff, no problem, but you dont want me building anything other than a computer ;) So I dont think porting it would be a good idea for me. Thanks for the info tho.

I have a Cold Air package from SLP because it had a bigger inlet than the stock air box. I wouldn't go with ram air because it works great at over 100 mph. How often do you go that fast?

"ram air" is just a cai. You could either piece together some sheet metal to run ducting from your fog lights to the air box, or i think they sell em for like 50 bucks on e-bay i forget where ive seen them before though.
