Tuning a 1993 PCM

What equipment do I need and where do I get it to burn new chips for 1993. I'm also slightly confused because according to the research that I've done so far it looks like it's possible to change the chip in the 1993 so that "in car" editing is possible. Is this correct. Any help greatly appreciated.

basically you need a pc, a prom uv eraser, and a prom burner, it will run you about $200-300 for the eraser and burner

Here's what I have and use:

Datamaster for data logging.

Tunercat for the tuning software.

PocketProgrammer2 for the chip burning.


You don't need a UV eraser. That's only if you use the 27C256 chips. They have a UV chip in them that needs to be erased every time you need to reprogram it. Myself, PCMforless (NOT Byran, but his chips associate), and countless others use Amtel 29C256 flash chips. Completely reprogrammable, over and over. No eraser, nothing needed.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no romlulator (eeprom emulator) that works with the 93's, letting you do in-car tuning. You MUST remove and replace the chip. No biggie, just a couple of small sockets and you're done.

Thanks guys. I've been on the Speed Density board a few times. I've been using PCMForless and have been more than satisifed with their work, but want to get to the point where I can burn my own chips.

These Amtel 29C256 flash chips, can I use these in my 93 chevy truck, or is that only in 93 lt-1 cars. I have a couple of GM cars that I plan on tuning, and if this is a one-chip-fit-all deal, I'll go this route.

I bought a BURN1 setup from Craig Moates (Moates.net). Great setup. I can't wait to play with it in a few weeks when I'm on spring break and get my LT1 into my '72 Vega.

i ordered my chip from craig moates, hes one of the more prominent tuners on TGO...youre also going to need the 4 letter code of the chip itself, i think i still have the 'infamous' BDLD on my comp somewhere if you need it :cool:
