If anything it would be for the GTO now thats way better then the mustang there is way to much fuss around the new stang when the GTO is gona be way better.

Punctuation is your friend. Say it with me now...

To answer the question that was buried in there somewhere: no, I will not be trading in my Camaro on a new Mustang.

Why not do a poll rather than have a bunch of posts? But to answer your question, no I won't trade in my Z for a Mustang.

Why even bother with a poll since the answers would be pretty obvious. I think it's safe to assume that most guys here will A) hold on to their 4th gens or B) hold out for a 5th gen since it is only a few years away.

I think on this board it would be fairly obvious that most poeple would choose not to get the 05 Mustang, over their current car.

But this microcasm of the autodom is small and on a national scale I think the 05 Stang will do just fine. And its boud to happen that many will migrate to the Blue Oval again. After all lots of loyal and loving 4th Gen F-body owners we're from the 5.0 camp. These are not brand loyal but prey to a more accomplished diety, power and performance. The new GT "should" be toe to toe with most the LT1-LS1 near stock F-cars. That with the updated styling and a new chassis would be worth the move.

While not my cup of tea, the 05 GT is a nice looking car and with 300hp it will be plety powerful.

Like a lot of people here, I'm going to wait and see how the 5th gen turns out. I'll hold onto my car for 3 more years....Heck I've put enough money into it as it is!

But....I will not rule out the Mustang when deciding on my pruchase. Nor will I rule out a GTO, Solstice/derivative, or any other similar offerings. Right now I'm confident the 5th will stack up and chances are I will get one of those.

I guess I can't comment since the question was asked only of Camaro owners.

LOL, seriously though...the 'bird is staying, I'll never own a Mustang. It has not occurred to me even once that I should buy a new mustang.

Quite frankly I'm already bored with the styling just from the few photos I've seen of the new Stang. I agree with folks in another thread that said it is going to age in the public's eye very rapidly.

I also think the new Mustang will do great, but nothing with a blue oval on it is worth getting rid of my dream car for. I do think that the new Mustang is somewhat unattractive looking due to the retro approach too. I patiently await for the 5th gen.

This is true but it is not asking "Who will give up thier Mustang for the "new" Mustang". That would be left the Mustang boards. Also, the question is not meant to gauge the potential success of the Mustang, just to see if it has made such an impact on an F-body owner as to make them switch sides. I am interested to see if anyone does say "yes" to the question.

My current Camaro is a 1989 IROC-Z. LB9, M5, G92, decal delete.

I've got less than 10,000 original miles. It rattles like a b!tch. The interior looks like it was cobbled together by a blind UAW worker. Last year....5 of my 8 Multec injectors short circuited....leaving me stranded until a flatbed brought me home.

Trade it for an '05 Mustang? Not a chance!

It's an '02 Camaro SS for me in the spring, which I plan on keeping until, oh....2007?.... ;)

So your answer from me is a resounding "nope".

NO WAY... I just don't like that retro mustang.. maybe if I see a bunch of them on the streets I will warm up to it but I would NOT trade in my SS for ANY Mustang... it just looks ugly to me.

I won't trade any vehicle I own on a Mustang as the new design is ugly as hell.

Well seeing how I just got my 02 Z28 on 11.3.03 and have made 1 out of 72 payments I'm gonna have to keep it LOL

Seriously though I like it but would rather keep mine and wait for the 5th gen.

If the 5th gen is a letdown (please God no!!!) I might be interested in a used 03-04 Cobra, so far I'm liking them better than this 05 (maybe it will grow on me more). And if I did for some reason get the new stang it would have to have the S/Ced powerplant like the 03-04 Cobras, I would never spring for that 300hp version. I'd buy an used LS1 TA before a plain GT, ratings aside a LS1 puts down significantly more power stock easily... I don't mind retro but the 05 just doesn't really look good to me so far, the current stangs look better IMO. Course there'd always be a used C6 by then too, who knows... Whatever I do I would most likely have my current or another 3rdgen for a project car to work on. I'd stick to bolt ons on whatever newer car I get in a couple years.

I wouldnt trade my 1LE Z for a new stang, no way, ever

BUT if I was forced to chose between a new gto and a new stang, there is a damn good chance I would pick the stang, based solely on the fact that the GTO is fugly and overweight, where atleast the new stang has some styling cues from back when cars were cars

My Z will not be traded for anything. About the only thing it would be sold for is a down payment on a house, and if that hasn't happened yet, it won't...

I'll live in it before I sell it :D Z284ever, I'm sorry to hear the problems with the IROC. Certainly you want it to go to a good home, no? Seeing as how that is THE IROC I want, why don't you PM me, and we can arrange something....

I personally like the new Mustang styling and I think they did a better job than GM with the GTO but I would still would not buy it.

Now if it truly has 300bhp that would be 260-270 at the wheels. LT1 could keep up with it and LS1 would owned it. Assuming this is true Ford once again dropped the ball big time.

I wouldn't trade my '99 Ram for the new Mustang, even if I didn't have to pay the difference. So if I had an F-body, you know I wouldn't trade it for one. :D

Sorry bud....not for sale. I'm hoping it'll make a good garage bookend for my 200x Z/28!

I was kidding anyways :) Nice to see someone like you hold onto a car like that. I have been amazed how many nice third gens I have found for sale on various sites, besides ebay even. Either an LB9 G92 or an L98 G92 '88-'89 will be in my garage by decade's end :)

Hopefully not that long...my first car was an '89 RS, and was a family treasure for 13 years. Everyone should have a third gen, because then they'd really know what a rattle trap that pulls .90g on a skidpad drives like :D

Yeah, I know Jason.

I've got sort of a strange love/hate relationship going with my IROC. There are so many things that I don't like about it....but I'll tell you, it really looks sharp, and the dual cat N10 exhaust sounds sooooo good.

You guys do know the new Stang does 0-60 in 5.2 right??? Can you say under rated?!?, awhile back some people were posting on Brad's boards about dyno numbers from some aftermarket places that got the the stang (ie: roush, an exhaust company that i forgot the name of) Dyno #'s were ranging from 283-291, At the wheels, thats why alot of us on the FORD boards were thinking the stang was going to be rated @ 320HP, I think this baby wont have a hard time with any year camaro, twisties included you guys will be OWNED!!.:D

I'll be interested in seeing the real-world numbers. But you do know that many 2002 LS1 F-bodies are hitting over 300 stock on the dyno right? :)

I doubt the 05 GT will "own" any LS1 car. Certainly there are faster ones and slower ones that goes with the terratory, usually driver related but who's counting.
Seeming as the 03-04 Mach 1 is about the same weight and power as the 05 GT and while they are doing very well they certainly are not "owning" any LS1 car. Competition is good and quite franly I'm happy after 10 years to see Ford has decided to join the fight. Sure the Cobra's have been holding their own but in the entry level Z28-GT area Ford has been lacking for a long long time! I hope the N/A 3V 4.6 is easier to mod and build than the N/A 2V or 4V for that matter. Or this cycle will continue because the LS1 aftermarket is big and the engines are easy and relatively cheap by todays standards to mod.
